"Class dismissed," Mr. Min Yoongi announced, signaling the end of the last period before lunch. All the students rose from their seats and bowed respectfully to their teacher, bidding him farewell. As soon as Mr. Min Yoongi left the classroom, a wave of excitement swept through the students, eager to begin their lunch break. Even Sunoo, who usually enjoyed studying, found the chemistry discussion rather dull.
The students swiftly gathered their belongings, eager to leave and enjoy their break. Some of the girls touched up their makeup, while others engaged in gossip. Meanwhile, Heeseung found himself unable to divert his gaze from his new classmate, Sunoo, who captivated him with his charm.
Heeseung's attention was interrupted when he heard his friends from another class entering their classroom, their boisterous voices giving them away. Sighing, he pretended to be sleepy and quickly feigned a nap, hoping his friends would leave him alone.
"Hey, Heeseung, my friend-" Jay's boisterous greeting echoed through the room, but he was cut off mid-sentence when his eyes landed on someone. "Hey! Sunoo Kim!" Jay's loud shout caught everyone's attention.
"Jay hyung's voice is like a drill in my ear," their youngest Japanese friend complained to Jake, exaggerating the discomfort. He dramatically covered his ear, shooting a playful glare at Jay, eliciting a chuckle from Sunghoon.
Heeseung, suddenly awakened from his feigned slumber, looked at Jay with a serious expression. "Do you two know each other?" he asked.
"Of course! He's my cousin," Jay replied, approaching Sunoo and wrapping him in a warm hug.
Jay's friends followed him. However, Heeseung remained seated, quietly listening to their conversation. Jay introduced all of his friends to Sunoo, who greeted them with a friendly handshake and a warm, wide smile. Heeseung couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy, secretly wishing that Sunoo would also bestow such a radiant smile upon him. However, his shyness held him back from approaching Sunoo directly.
As Heeseung continued to observe them, his desire for a warm smile from Sunoo grew stronger. He longed for the courage to approach him but found himself trapped in his own shyness.
Caught in the act of staring at his friends and Sunoo conversing, Heeseung's friends noticed and began teasing him. Embarrassed, Heeseung quickly gathered his belongings and hurriedly made his way out of the room.
"Heeseung, are you shy?" Sunghoon teased, causing Sunoo to chuckle. Sunoo found Jay's friends to be amusing and friendly.
"Should I introduce you to Sunoo as well, Heeseung?" Jay smirked, joining in the teasing, which only deepened Heeseung's blush due to his overwhelming shyness.
Without uttering another word, Heeseung promptly left the classroom.
"What's wrong with that guy? I'm still a bit shocked that he decided not to skip classes today," Jungwon joined their conversation, and his remark silently amused Heeseung's friends.
"Well, maybe he's finally undergoing some character development?" Jake replied.
"Does he usually skip classes?" Sunoo asked curiously.
"Yes, he goes to school every day, but he always skips his classes. He prefers being alone on the rooftop, playing the guitar, or going to the school gym to play basketball by himself," Ni-ki replied, causing Jay to sigh.
"We don't know what's going on with Heeseung. He wasn't like this back in grade school. He used to be a good student, you know. He just won't share his problems with us," Jake said, receiving a comforting pat on the back from Ni-ki.
Jungwon nodded, finally understanding that Heeseung's behavior might be a result of him facing a challenging problem. He felt sorry for Heeseung and hoped that he would soon find relief from whatever was bothering him, allowing him to focus on his studies once again.
"Do you guys want to join us for lunch?" Sunghoon asked Jungwon and Sunoo.
"Maybe next time. Jungwon and I will be eating outside of school," Sunoo replied with a wide smile.
He bid farewell to his cousin and his cousin's friends, as well as Jungwon, before they left.
