"Mr. Catalano!" Dav cooed at a failed attempt at Nadine's imitation. I chose to ignore him.

Nadine Jennifer Callisto.

How could she?

"Dude! On a serious note, do you know her? What were those heated looks about?" Roger asked.

" Heated looks are for all the women who qualify," I replied.

"A woman in a millionaire's arms doesn't qualify, you know?" Merv said.

My grip on the steering wheel tightened as  I fought back an urge to turn around and drive the car over Jan.

" Merv, how long does it take to ruin a person's love life?" I asked.

"A year?" he guessed.

"Nope. A night." Roger said.

"Actually...just a phone call," I answered.

"Ledger Catalano is showering pearls of real-time philosophy...but wait...that sounded like the plot twist of Fifty Shades of Grey, didn't it?" Merv said.

They laughed but I remained stern because that was the most bitter truth of my life. Just two phone calls had turned my life into a mess.

It turned me into...I didn't know what.

But it definitely changed her.

The Nadine who had pretended to be the most passionate aficionado of loyalty was in a millionaire's arms.

Although I didn't want to really admit it but that man had had some luck.

Beauty, Brains...all of it in a highly responsible employee.

What had impressed her though?

Looks?

Money?

Luxury?

It couldn't be some sentimental reason because his tone didn't reflect that.

Is Nadine shallow?

Was that even possible?

Maybe.

We hadn't been together for a very long time before we parted and how long does it take to reveal someone's real character?

Whole life.

"To earth," August said snapping his fingers.

" You look sick," Dav commented.

"You know what, if we need to save this contract for the cash that you need for your daughter, you have to stop being rude to the millionaire's woman."

"Her name is Nadine Jennifer Callisto," I said through gritted teeth.

"How do you know her middle name? She didn't make a mention of it." Zen intervened.

I wanted to groan but it was always better to downplay stuff like that.

"I keep good information about the people I plan to do business with," I replied.

To that, Dav replied with a snark spy comment but I wasn't interested in the conversation anymore.

The only person occupying my mind was Lauren. I had to get home quickly. Only Lauren could push Nadine out of my mind...mostly.
