Chapter 41: Small Talk

"We have the Judgment Day here with us today. How are you all feeling tonight?" The interviewer asks shoving the microphone into our faces. One singular camera is zoomed in on us as we crowd together as a group. Damien and Finn are leaning against the wall, as Rhea stands in the middle with me on her left. Dominik stands directly behind me- so close I swear I can feel his breath on my head.

Rhea raises her hand without looking down and pushes the microphone away. None of them answer, but instead they stare at the interviewer intimidately. The interviewer slowly lowers the microphone before awkwardly asking another question.

"Ok... how do you feel about your next match Finn?" The interviewer tries again looking at Finn with hope.

Finn perks up at this and looks at him confused, "What match?"

We all turn to the interviewer in confusion, "You know... the one with Karl Anderson... that you are having tonight...?" The interviewer continues now looking at us in confusion.

"I don't have a match with that brute! I don't remember agreeing to that!" Finn stands up straight and argues.

Just then someone comes around the corner and catches all of our eyes.

"Finn Balor! Just the man I wanted to see," the man lays his hand out for Finn to shake. Finn looks him up and down not moving an inch.

"Oh sorry, where's my manors- I'm Adam Pearce, director of all matches," Adam holds his hand out again.

"I know who you are," Finn says coldly.

"Oh... well then... I wanted to inform you of some last-minute changes," Adam looks at Finn smiling.

Finn stares back with an unamused face. The tension in the room turns awkward, so Adam continues.

"I was requested to set up a match between you and Karl. I can feel it in my bones that this match will be great! I have faith in you champ, break a leg out there!" Adam slaps Finn on the back trying to lighten the mood. Rhea steps in close staring Adam down, as he slowly backs away- finally noticing the unwelcoming feeling we are all sharing toward him. Adam nods his head one last time before disappearing around a wall.

"Okay... so I think that is settled... how do you feel now Mr. Balor?" The interviewer tries again.

Finn clenches his jaw and looks angrily toward the interviewer, but he still doesn't say a word.

"Okay... I think that when they say "actions speak louder than words"- you're the definition of that," the interviewer then turns to Rhea and me. "And how are you girls feeling about Damage Control? That match that you had really showed the power you both hold."

Rhea slowly pulls the microphone to her, "It just further shows not to mess with us."

Rhea backs away and the interviewer turns to me," Mrs. Zoe, just a couple of minutes ago you had a run-in with Zelina. She said a few things- a few jabs towards you. How do you feel about what she said?"

I freeze for a moment not expecting a question like that.

"Well she said a bunch of nothing, so I really have nothing to say to her. I don't feel like wasting my breath on her," I say with confidence.

The interviewer raises an eyebrow, "Well, in that case, I have to ask. Are you and Dominik something... or no? The actions shown tonight say something may be going on, but on the other hand..." the interviewer sends a glance to Rhea," We all thought Dominik had something going on with someone else. Please, explain what's going on here."

I scoff listening to his words," Once again- I have nothing to say about her words. Ask me if I care about what you all think. I don't. Think what you want, in the end, does it really matter what's going on inside of our group? How dare you try to pin me and Rhea against each other over an issue that isn't even really there."

Rhea finally steps in, "Even if it would come down to that- it wouldn't. Dominik is my partner- my work partner. Nothing more. So knock it off with this foolishness," Rhea spits.

The interviewer raises his brows in shock at how defensive we get with his question," Understood... but one last question. What about you Dominik? How do you feel about this?"

The interviewer is really pushing it today.

"I feel that whatever Mami says- goes. If she wants me to share details like that, then I will. Until then, I won't say another word about this. Why are we focusing on that anyways? What about the actual problem here? Like my dad? Did you see how much of a coward he was today? This is what I'm talking about but no one listens. He rather put his own teammates against his son- than himself."

"So you still want a match against your dad?" The interviewer asks.

Dominik scoffs," Am I that readable?" Dominik turns towards the camera, "Rey if you are watching- I want you to know that I won't give up until you give me the match that I want."

With that, the interview ends.

I know this is a short chapter- but interviews normally don't last that long either. I decided to try and write chapters ahead of time so I'm not missing two days in a row. I still won't be able to have a chapter for Saturday- but I think Friday there will be one.
