"Eh?!" She exclaimed.
I suppose she never expected it, I can't blame her. "Yeah, today." I said, when she looked at me with an astonished look. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?" She asked, while playfully nudging my arm with her elbow.
"Well... You never asked." I answered, nudging her back. I couldn't help but chuckle at her positive response. "Besides, It's not a big deal."
"Not a big deal? Seriously?" She asked, looking absolutely done. "Aren't you gonna do something...? Like- at all...?"
"Do something like what?" I questioned. She slapped her palm on her forehead and sighed, "Like I dunno, treating yourself? Maybe have some fun?"
"No... I don't really celebra-"
"Then let me take you out!"
"H-huh?!"

[4:00 am]
Somehow, we left the school and we're now on the bus. Honestly, I don't know how things escalated to this...
There were few people other than us on the vehicle, probably going to work or college, I don't know. But we got a few stares. Perhaps they're wondering why two teenagers are out here on the bus at 4 AM in the morning, but it's whatever.
Anyway, I've never really been enthusiastic about birthdays ever. It'd always feel like another regular day. I never understood the hype, or 'sweet sixteen' as they call it. It never made sense. Why would anyone want to grow older? I'd rather stay young and ignorant...
Most my birthdays were spent at that sly woman's home. Ugh, Yae Miko...
Since my mother couldn't care less, my aunt would take they responsibility of, 'making the day memorable' for me. It was never fun. Me, my mother, and my sister would just sit awkwardly at the table for lunch, since my mother sure as hell can't cook, my sister being just as useless. Aunt Miko would just make lunch, give me a small present, and send us home.
Back when I studied in Sumeru Akademiya's middle school, no one knew of my birthday either. Not even that blue-haired jerk, Dottore... I always kept silent about it, not wanting to attract attention to myself... Especially Dottore.
His annoying rich friends like Ajax and Rosalyne would visit often, and throw painfully loud parties on each other's birthdays, I hated it. The crazy amount of alchohol they'd consume disgusted me, Ajax was stinky enough, the alchohol made it worse. Yeesh... Anyway, I was always forced to go with them to parties, and It drove me insane, so I'd just sit awkwardly in a corner, keeping distance from everyone. I mean, why interect with the rest of the human species? Perhaps I'm too much of an introvert, but I don't care, the main point I'm trying to proove here is, I hate birthday parties.
Back to the present, (Y/n) said she wanted to 'take me out' as a treat for my birthday... This is the first time I'm doing something on my birthday, other than eating dinner at my aunt's place. I'm a bit excited, honestly. I don't know where she's taking me, but it's certainly not a party, that's for sure. That gave me a sense of ease.
"Where are we going..?" I question.
"Hm, to Inazuma City!" She whisper-shouts. The bus was really silent, so speaking at a normal volume felt weird.
"What're we gonna do there though?" I ask again. I leaned my ear closer to her face so I could hear her better, but the silence that followed made things a bit awkward. I hoped she was thinking about what to say, instead of being weirded out by me coming so close. Maybe I'm overthinking things...
I was relieved when she answered. "You said you liked bitter tea, right? We're going to Komore Tea house."
"But... Isn't it closed...? It's like- four a.m."
"Well, let's just wait at a park nearby till then?" She suggests.
"Okay."
