The night had soon rolled in as Haeun bid goodbye to Felix after spending the last five hours sitting with him in their local cafe. Every moment Haeun spent with the freckled face man, she treasured it deeply. Without Felix by her side, she just wasn't herself.
The night sky was shining with bright dots of stars making Haeun pause and take in the sight. Part of her really did not want to go inside her home, not because it wasn't her safe space or it was filthy, mainly because of the dark haired figure she knew would still be awake waiting for her return.
Haeun removed the cap from her head and ran her fingers through her hair, it was longer now- she really wanted to cut it but Jaemin said he preferred her hair how it is. Long, light pink- on the brighter side she loved the shade of her hair, that's good right?
As much as she wanted to stare at the stars all night, her feet were aching from the laced knee high boots her stylist gave her. Hesitantly, Haeun rooted in her bag to find a familiar set of keys which opened the gate of her house. At least the pay of working for HYPE meant she could afford a decent home, personally she would have gone for something smaller and closer to home but because of her job and Jaemin, she couldn't have everything she wanted.
When she finally found them, she clicked the button on the key and the gate immediately opened before her, revealing the small front garden leading to her door. With a sigh and a little mental preparation, Haeun walked up to the door and unlocked it, walking inside.
Immediately, she was greeted by her boyfriend leaning against the wall, staring at her with a look which told her how the conversation was about to go.
Sending him a wordless small smile, Haeun started to unlace her boots as Jaemin huffed glancing at the clock.
"You do know it is almost 12AM, Haeun?" Jaemin started, making Haeun internally roll her eyes.
"I was with Felix." Haeun stated, finally getting her first boot off and started to work on the second.
"Felix?? What did I tell you about him! If he keeps leaving you out this late it's not good for your work balance." Here he goes again.
"Jaemin, I haven't seen him in a week! And he's my best friend of course I am going to want to go out with him."
A brief silence washed into the room as Haeun removed her last shoe and was about to walk off so she could finally lay down but a hand wrapped around her arm stopped her dead in her tracks.
"Listen, baby, I just want whats best for you." His grip tightened as Haeun looked up at his face, that sweet innocent look he used in order to guilt trip her into believing his bullshit, of course she didn't fall for it but since he was her bosses son...
" I know but Felix-"
Haeun was cut off by Jaemin colliding his lips with hers to which she pulled away from quickly.
"Not tonight, Jaemin." She removed her arm from his grip and was about to leave to their bedroom before he spoke up again.
"I saw your ex has debuted with your old friends, hasn't he?"
Jaemin didn't even mention his name but her mind immediately flashed with Chan, causing her to tense up at the thought.
Even though her back was facing away from Jaemin, she imagine the look of jealousy on his face. She remained silent, making Jaemin continue.
"Your reaction has gone viral, Babe." His voice was laced with venom as he spat out the pet name almost teasingly. "Do you not remember what we are?!"
At the raise in his voice, Haeun flinched lowering her head, feeling helpless in the moment.
"We are the cover couple! We are what are currently making HYPE stay in business and if you fuck this up because of some sloppy hookup you had when you were sixteen-"
"DON'T CALL HIM THAT." Haeun couldn't control herself, he knew nothing- even when Haeun was comfortable enough with him and shared almost every detail about her life he still did not understand anything. Jaemin was once a good man- the ideal boyfriend even... keyword, 'once'.
Jaemin laughed in disbelief, shaking his head as if this was all some sick joke.
"If you knew anything about me, you would understand that I was showing support and love towards my friends." Haeun narrowed her eyes, the anger almost seeping through her words.
"That's what you call 'support'? Basically drooling over someone??" Jaemin stepped closer as Haeun backed away. She would be lying if she said she wasn't somewhat scared of him- but she had no choice, Jaemin was double her size. "You better keep yourself together or else I can strip everything from you in a heartbeat."
Jaemin walked past her, ensuring he had hit a nerve before making his exit.
As much as she hated to admit it, he was right. If she did anything that upset Jaemin, he could easily destroy her life and make sure there was nothing left of her.
Haeun sat against the wall and rested her head on the wall, closing her eyes in frustration- at this point she didn't care of Jaemin's reaction, she just needed her brother.
After a moment, Haeun pulled out her phone and tapped on her contacts, scrolling down to Minho's name and calling him.
"Hey Hae, what's up?" In the background she could hear the clattering of pots and her brother quietly telling Jisung something along the lines of 'Don't put that in the stew'. She chuckled lightly, even in the worst situations Minho and Jisung are always doing something to make her laugh.
"Uhm, am I okay to come over for a~?" Haeun stopped herself mid sentence, "Why are you cooking at midnight?"
"Why not?" Minho fired back, sounding offended by her question. "Also Jisung was hungry so... anyways yeah you can come over. Everything good?"
"Yeah everything is okay, just wanted to see you guys." Haeun switched her phone to her other ear as she stood up from her seat on the ground.
"Ew- how are we related with the sappy stuff you come out with."
Haeun rolled her eyes and grabbed her keys again, slipping into some random shoes on the side.
"Do you want me to insult you?"
"Do you want to see what happens if you do?" Minho was cut off by the sound of shuffling and an ushered voice telling him to mix the stew or something.
"Hi Hae!!" Jisung chirped, she could hear the smile in his voice.
"Hi Ji!" Haeun smiled, Jisung had that effect on her, same with Felix and Jeongin.
"I banished Min to the kitchen, I heard him say you're coming over???" Jisung exclaimed, excitedly like he didn't just see her six hours ago.
"Yeah, I'll be there in about tenish minutes, so I'll see you then." Haeun hung up the phone after Jisung said goodbye and climbed into her car, shutting the door.
Haeun wasted no time starting the car and reversing out of her driveway. Away from her home, away from Jaemin.
