Sun stared at the flames surrounding him, an overwhelming sadness drowning his circuts as he watched the flames dance and crackle, swallowing the vibrant ball pit and causing the plastic balls to burst in a cascade of heat. The once-playful slides drooped like wilted flowers, and the play mats curled up into charred flakes.
Move!
Moon yelled at him from inside their head.
Sun hesitated, his eyes glued to the daycare- his Daycare, a place full of youthful laughter now filled with the sound of crackling flames and the smell of purnt plastic.
Sun felt his body jump as Moon urged him to move and Sun had no choice but to do so. It felt like every step was a heavy burden, his servos straining against the weight of his grief.
Sun walked in the direction of the lobby, seeking a way out of the plex when the light above them burst and for an agonising second, Sun felt seering pain before he was no longer in control.
Moon turned and began walking in a different direction, climbing up to the rafters to avoid the fire and the light it emitted, he managed to get to an emergency storage closet where he snatched a dufflebag and began pilling it full of his and Sun's emergency batteries and manual charger chord. They'd never used them before but moon didn't have the time to check if they worked as a beam engulfed in flames crashed through the room, narrowly missing him but illuminating the room.
Sun stummbled past pillars of flames and debris, dufflebag swung over his shoulder finally getting to the front entrance of the plex, where the mettal shutter door had collapsed and the glass panes had shattered.Stepping outside Sun took a moment of reprive as he marveled at the real trees and the sky full of stars.
he looked back at the bright hot light pouring out of the pizza plex, the flames being the only thing currently preventing Moon from fronting.
"What are we going to do?" Sun asked to the empty parking lot.
"I guess we'll just have to do what they're doing." Moon spoke in their head, turning it towards two fleeting figures.
That brat they'd found up past his bedtime and Freddy.
"Except... we're going that way." Moon continued, Sun's head is turned again to face out into the car park where a red string trails out and onto the highway.
Sun's smile was giddy and his chest filled with a fuzzy happiness. Moon was finally going to let them follow their string to you.
Confident that Moon wasn't going to be a nuisance this time, Sun stepped out into the night.
Moon looked down at his hand as his fingertips slowly faded from yellow to blue. he flexed his the hand and turned it around.
"it's still here..." he muttered to himself.
Glancing back into the flames of the Pizza Plex he searched for something but to no avail.
He turned and began walking, following the string out into the world.
Sun and Moon spent their days and nights hitch hiking and charging their used up batteries on generators behind truck stops.Sun had no troublecatching rides, many Curious truck drivers, farmers and tourists were curious about the friendly looking robot on the side of the road covered in soot. and much to Moon's dismay, Sun happily explained his sentience and their red string to to drivers and passengers who listended in awe.
Moon on the otherhand, preffered to hide in the shadows until a large enough truck drove by for him to leap onto, sitting ontop and watching the string lead into the distance. especially after one particular encounter.
a truck driver directed Sun into the storage container on the vehicle before locking them in. Moon managed to get them out, not before overhearing the man on a call with someone he intended to sell them to.
This was how they traveled. Atleast until they reached the beginnings of the city, Moon had no choice but to catch public transit like a normal person. unfortunatley he was much less inviting than Sun and caught a lot of glances from other passengers.
Moon tended to sit in the backs of buses and trains whereas Sun preffered to stand in the front, entertaining babies, helping the elderly stand up from their seat and essentially working as a gps for the bus drivers.
Sun happily bid farewell to the bus as it departed from the stop he had gotten off at. Moon grumbled in their head at the new addition of people to their breadcrumb trail they'd carved into their escape. There's no way all those people Sun talked to were going to keep their mouths shut.Sun looked up the street where he'd spotted the string leading to. It was a small set of units, four small houses arranged in a tiered line on one block of land.
He couldn't contain his excitement as he followed the string up the the very top unit, Moon recognising the car out the front.
Spinning happily, Sun excitedly knocked on the front door. He could her the murmuring of a tv on and the footsteps of someone coming to the door.
when the door swung open Sun's metephorical heart skipped a beat at the sight of you. his happyness quickly turned to worry as he saw your puffy wet eyes and and sensed your high levels of endorphins.
He was about to ask if you were alright when he noticed your blood pressure drop and your eyes rolling back as you began to pass out.
