The Island of Philae

Sacred to the goddess Isis, the temple on this island was built as a shrine to the Pharaoh Taharqa. By 350 BCE the sight was taken over as a pilgrimage site to leave offerings for blessings from Isis, Hathor and Horus.

This island was meant as a place of prayer, where the people of Egypt and the countries around it could come to worship their deities. Though not a burial ground, Philae is the site of a secret tomb. One that must remain undisturbed at all costs.
