The next morning I sit at my desk, surrounded by the dim glow of a candle, It's the day if the reaping. I take a deep breath, preparing myself for the weight of the words I was about to write. The blank sheets of paper before me seems both daunting and cathartic. I know that I need to express my thoughts and emotions before the uncertain future consumes me entirely. With trembling hands, I pick up my pen, ready to pour my soul onto the page.

Dear Mum,

As the reaping draws near, my heart feels heavy with the weight of our shared memories. It is you, who has been my guiding light, my unwavering source of love and strength.

From the simplest joys of childhood to the trials we have faced together, you have been there, steadfast and supportive. Your love has been a shield, protecting me from the harshness of the world.

As I face the grim possibility of being chosen once again, I cannot help but feel the weight of the unknown bearing down upon me. The thought of leaving you behind, of the pain it would inflict upon your gentle heart, is an agony I cannot bear to contemplate. Know that I get reaped, I will carry your endless support and courage with me into the arena. It will be my shield, my motivation to endure and survive.

I want you to hold onto the memories we have created together. every laughter and every tear. You have shaped me into the person I am today. And If I do not return, my love for you will endure beyond the bounds of time. I will watch over you from whatever realm lies beyond, my spirit interwoven with the memories we have made. Keep me close in your heart, Mum, as I will forever hold you in mine.

Lots of love.

Calissa

As I finish writing the letter to my mother, tears well up in my eyes, my heart heavy but determined, as I turned my attention to the second letter.

Dear Dad,

As the sun is rising on the day of the reaping, I find myself reflecting upon the profound impact you have had on my life. Though I may not share your blood, the bond we share transcends any genetic connection. You have been a constant presence, a pillar of support, from the moment I was born, and I am eternally grateful.

You have stepped into the role of a father with grace and dedication. From the earliest memories of my childhood, you were there, guiding me, teaching me, and celebrating my victories. Just know I couldn't have survived my last games if it wasn't for your constant belief in me.

As I prepare myself for the possibility of being reaped once again, my mind drifts back to the previous Games, where your confidence in me was the spark that ignited my determination. I remember the moments of dread and fear, and yet you never doubted my strength, that I could survive and overcome any obstacle.
