After Haya had scoffed a couple more pieces of barfi and had taken a swig of sharbat, she returned to the stage and took her seat next to Meerab.
Meerab turned to her and asked, 'Naachou ge nahi?'
Haya grinned and said 'Meerab ki shaadi hou aur Haya na nachi? Yeh tou mumkin bhe nahi hai.' Her voice carrying a girly tone, she was elated from all the sugar.
With those words, she stood up and attempted to pull up Meerab too. 'Iss haldi mein naachoungey main?,' Meerab asked rhetorically, smothered in paste - a yellow stain hazard.
Haya rolled her eyes at her reluctance. No one could stop her from her dancing. She went up to the grammaphone to fiddle with it, playing a faster paced song and then pushed the floor cushions to the side.
Soon enough she began twirling and her dress trailing begind her in the air, as if she was flowing in the air. Meerab began clapping, cheering her on, with the rest of the spectating women. A couple younger girls criss crossed their hands and twirled in circles too and then an unknown girl got up and danced next to Haya.
Her hair was long and curled- black- trailing down her back, her dupatta draped from each elbow- She was wearing a pastel purple, and silver embroidered dress which was perfecty fitted at the curve of her waist- as if it was made for dancing.
Meerab turned to Mariyum, that was sat next to her and asked. 'Yeh kaun hai?' Before Mariyum had the opportunity to answer her question- it clicked for Meerab.
'Yeh Firdaus hai, Murtasim bhai kay saath parti the,' she clarified.
It seemed to Meerab that the fabric moved in slow motion before her, as she took in the face of the woman that was Murtasim's friends. She didnt have the chance to take it in when she had spotted her the first time, at his bedroom door.
She was pretty. She had dark eyebrows framing her face and a clean centre parting to her hair which was pushed back over her shoulders, it seemed to be pinned in place behind her ears and her lips were stained a deep pink.
'Dost the?'
'Haan, backpan main.'
Thats he had told her too- Hum sirf dost thay and then i grew up.
Who had invited her to dance here? 'Tum ne isse bulaya hai?'
Mariyum chuckled at the suggestion. 'Isko kisi invitation ki zaroorat nahi parti.'
Mainay thori bulaya tha. Jo dil mein aata hai, wohi karti hai aur wahan hi jaati hai - She hadent doubted him then. The statement seemed true now aswell.
Meerab knew then she didn't want to start her marriage on the wrong foot, so she knew she had to speak with the girl.
The song had just finnished and a slower tune began to play, the dancing girls had began to dissapate.
'Ta'aruf karau.' She ordered Marium.
'Abhi?'
Meerab nodded, her mind occupied with the words she would use to tell this Firdaus to stay away from her husband- but she hadent need bothered.
Mariyum had gestured with her hand, and Firdaus and walked up to the stage and beamed at Meerab... 'Mashallah, Murtasim ki dulhan bohat he khoobsurat lag rahee hai.' Firdaus then put her hand for Meerab to shake, which she did. 'Main....Firdaus.'
'Hi, mera naam Meer-...'
'...Meerab hai,' Firdaus giggled at meeting her. 'Tumharay Khan nay bataya tha...Actually, sataya tha, daant kar.' She cupped her mouth and wispered to her.
