I packed up my suitcase as my parents were rushing me. "You're going to be late and miss the train if you don't hurry up!" They said, which made me stressed out, but I still got ready on time. I dragged my suitcase downstairs and met up with Hermione, who was all ready packed up and ready to go. "Come on, sis, I have never been late before!" I rolled my eyes and gave her an annoyed look before taking my suitcase to put in the car.
Hermione has been going to Hogwarts since she was 11, and now she was 15, and so was I, but this was my first year at Hogwarts. I was nervous as I hated switching schools and trying to make new friends, but Hermione ensured me that I would be fine on making friends.
After what felt like the longest car ride of my life, we finally made it to a place called Diagon Alley. "What are we doing here?" I asked as I thought we were going to the train station. "This is where we get our wands and cool magical stuff." Hermione said before we got out of the car. I followed her throughout the Alley as we went to the first shop. It was a wand shop. "Hello, Miss Granger, how may I help you today?" The man behind the counter talked to Hermione as I sort of hid behind her. I was honestly terrified of all the magic stuff, but my parents and Hermione really wanted me to go to Hogwarts and experience a world of magic.
Hermione pushed me in front of her and asked the man to get me a wand. The man walked around the back of his shop, which looked extremely crowded with wands, but apparently, he knew exactly which one would be mine. "Here you go, try this one." I took the wand from his hand and swung it around like the fairy godmother in Cinderella, making Hermione and the man behind the counter laugh. The wand showed a sort of good magic as it lit up and sparked a tiny firework in the shape of a heart. "Another perfect match." The man said as he gave me the case to the wand. "Thank you!" I said as I took the case.
We walked to a few more stores and got more stuff, which I didn't even understand what a lot of it was for, but that's why I had Hermione. We walked to the last store that we hadn't been to yet and walked in. I immediately saw a boy around my age with platinum blond hair and gray eyes. He wore the same uniform everyone else wore, but his was green. He caught me staring at him and walked up to me, causing me to blush a little bit. "Hello there, I don't think I have seen you around before. What is your name?" I looked into his light gray eyes and froze as I forgot how to speak. "Grace! Come on!" The boy laughed as Hermione yelled at me and held his hand out to me. "I'm Draco, Draco Malfoy." I grabbed his hand and shook it. "I'm Grace Granger." He looked at Hermione before looking at me and smiling. "You're the mudbloods, sister?" I looked at him confused as I didn't know what a mudblood was. "Mudblood?" Hermione them grabbed my arm and pulled me away from him. "You can not be talking to him. He is no good!".
I walked away from Hermione and towards a cat that seemed to be looking at me. "Hermione!" She walked up to me and looked at the cat. "Look at how adorable this cat is!" He or she was a fully black cat with bright yellow eyes. "I want it." Hermione went to the woman behind the counter and asked about the cat. The woman then walked up to me and picked the cat up. "Beutiful, isn't she." The lady said as she gave the cat a treat. "Would you like to hold her?" My face lit up as I nodded, and the lady handed me the cat. I brushed my hands through her fur as she purred and rubbed her head against my hand. "She's perfect." I said as my eyes sparkled and my face lit up with joy. "What are you going to name her?" The lady asked me as she walked back behind the counter. " Lily." I loved the name Lily for an animal or a human. It was just a very nice name. "Delightful. Lily is now all yours.".
When we walked out of the shop, the boy named Draco leaned against the wall and smiled as we walked past him. "Hermione, what does mudblood mean?" She looked at me with a serious expression as I held Lily close to me. "Mudblood is a very insulting term used against people with muggle parents." I looked at her confused as I didn't know what muggles were either. "We are mudbloods because we have non magical parents." Ohhhhhhhh... so Draco insulted us. I had a disappointed yet sad expression on my face as I looked back at Draco, who was still looking at us. He saw that I was upset, and his smile stayed put as Hermione and I walked away. What an asshole.
We walked back to the car and packed our stuff in it. I held Lily in my arms as we drove to the train station. "Hey mom, did you see Lily!?" She turned around and looked back at the cat that I held in my hands. "She's a pretty cat, and I know how you always wanted a pet." Mom said before dad interrupted. "You need to remember to feed the cat, bathe the cat, and clean out its litter box." I slouched back in my chair as I rolled my eyes. "I know, dad, I know.".
