Carlisle came in and leaned against the door frame "You ok Em?" I glanced up at him then sighed and looked down at my sleeping beauty. "I..." But I didn't quite know how to begin. I took a deep breath and began again "You know when I was a little girl I always thought fairytales were stupid. A man doesn't just show up, kiss you, and magically all your problems are solved. My mom always said I should marry a rich man because then I wouldn't have to worry about anything. Her view was that money solved all problems. I also think that's stupid, there are problems even money can't solve. At eight years old I thought I knew what my life was going to be like. I was going to graduate from high school, go to college, become a CEO, fall in love one time if it didn't work the first time then I didn't need it, and have two kids because one and three are odd numbers so either the child is alone or one is left out, and four is just too damn many in general."

I kissed Hadyn's little hand as I continued "Now I have the diploma, the most perfect little girl that even seven months later still can't believe she came out of my body, an amazing family, not one but two gorgeous houses, and the most perfect, amazing, sexy man that could ever exist, not to mention a diamond ring and let me just say I accidentally found the receipt and my god Carlisle the fortune you dropped on a ring for it to get puked on by a baby daily is just insane. Physically I'm ok, but I am so scared I'm going to lose you, I could lose everything in this world as long as I have you and Hadyn. I can't lose either of you, I just can't and now we have an army of uncontrolled vampires heading for us with the sole purpose to kill me and my sister and you are gonna be on the front lines and that terrifies me."

He shut the door and came to sit behind me, pulling me against his chest as he said "You won't lose me. Yes, newborns are stronger because they still have human blood in them but even if they outnumber us they could never beat us. They lack a very important skill, they'll be too crazed to think logically and that is how we'll beat them. Besides Jasper was literally turned for war so if anyone could lead us to win it's him." I said "You don't even like war, you didn't even want to kill James." he chuckled "You did though." I said "I think we've established that you're morally better than me." that made him laugh but he said "Maybe, but as you saw two weeks ago, I may not be a killer but I can, and will kill anyone who dares to hurt you or our daughter. I may be trying to be a good man but I was going to rip that thing apart, it took everything in me to leave it alone when I saw you in Port Angeles but that was only possible because you needed medical attention, this time I was seconds from ripping him to shreds. Jasper however was the logical one, he took care of it so I could take care of you because again you needed medical attention." a knock sounded on the door so Carlisle kissed my head and took the baby from me, "I'll go put her to bed while you two talk." Jasper came in as Carlisle used the nursery door to leave.

Jasper came to sit next to me and said "I don't want you to worry, so I thought I would tell you a little story." I nodded, laid my head on his shoulder, and let him begin "I was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry. All without having seen any real battle. Until I met a certain immortal. Maria. I was riding back to Galveston after evacuating a column of women and children. When I saw her... I immediately offered her my aid." I interrupted him "Maria was creating an army?" he nodded "They were very common in the South. And cost brutal battles for territory. Maria won them all. She was smart, careful. And she had me. I was the second in command. My abilities to control emotions served her well. I trained her newborns. An endless occupation since she never let them live beyond their first year. It was my job to dispose of them. I could feel everything they felt. I thought what Maria and I had was love. But I was her puppet. She pulled the strings. I didn't know there was another way... Until I found Alice. Now she'd seen me coming, of course. I don't know what I'd become without her. We aren't going to lose anybody Em, and they won't get passed us to get to you, Bella, or the baby. I swear to you everything will be ok and then you'll get married and we'll be a family. Forever." I said, "Tyson won't come back again... right?" Jasper said "No he isn't coming back, I don't think he has resurrection skills. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't kick his ass, I mean you beat the shit out of James." I sighed "I don't know what happened, I just... I froze." he said "Are you going to the practice?" I said "No, I don't want Hadyn in the cold." he said, "Then you need to stay in your house, it's closer to the clearing and we'll be able to hear you in case something happens." I nodded and went into the nursery to grab the baby. Carlisle walked us to the house before he met up with the others. I haven't coslept with Hadyn since she started rolling because I was afraid she would roll off the bed but tonight I needed it so I liked the floor around the bed with pillows before laying down with her and falling into a restless sleep.
