Episode 5

"Oh, I have to go back, my Mother will be upset if she finds out I'm gone."
"Kanji, don't go yet please.."

Kanji looked at Jia's frightened eyes.

"I don't...I don't want you to go."

Kanji immediately sat down and hugged Jia tight.

"I got you, don't worry."

"I love the cute couple you two make."
"Mother!"
"...this lady is your mother?"
"No...I just call her that because she often looked after me during the years I've been here."
"That's nice."

Silence.

"I'm hungry.."
"Oh! I brought some treats for you."

Kanji dug into his satchel and pulled out the snacks he had.
Jia happily took them and began to eat.

"Oh, do you want some?"
"Hm, sure. I don't mind."

The two ate the bunch of treats, then soon drifted off to sleep.

"Sweet dreams..."

Huh?
What time...
Sheesh!
It's so late!
Mother will be in my room in 10 minutes!
I'll be in huge trouble!!
I've gotta hurry!

Kanji got up and began to run.

"Goodbye, Jia. Sleep well."

He raced as fast as he could.

Shoot.
I've got 2 mins left,
And I'm nowhere near home.
I really don't want to...
But...

Kanji sighed, took a deep breath, than began to recite an old spell.

Suddenly, a dark purple and black light surrounded him, as wings sprouted from his back, and horns from his head.
Kanji then began to cough uncontrollably.

"I hate this...
"This..cough..takes up so much of my..cough..health..."

With a sudden flap of his wings, Kanji flew as fast as he could home.

"I c-can't go through the door,
"I guess I'll fly...cough...through my window?"

Kanji flew up into his room, then walked over to the giant mirror in his room to look at his reflection.

Sigh.

Kanji closed his eyes, took a deep breath, then recited another spell.

Instantly, Kanji's horns and wings retracted and he returned to his human form.

Why..
Why couldn't I have been one of them?

Years ago

"Hi! Can I p-play with you guys?"
"Sure! What's your name?"
"My name is Kanji!"
"Ok Kanji! Let's play on the slides!"

"Did you hear? There are rumors spiraling around that Kanji isn't human."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, somebody saw him walking home."
"So?"
"They said while he was walking, he said something, then he grew wings and a horn!"
"Really?"
"Do you think...
"He could be one of them?"
"...You mean..."
"Yeah!"
"I guess we'll have to keep watch."

"Get away!"
"Yeah nobody wants you here!"

Kanji looked at the kids in terror.

"But I saved you guys from the lion..."
"It doesn't matter!"
"You and your kind terrorize us all the time!"
"Not to mention, you guys kidnap angels!"
"You're are all bad!"

"We hate you!"

Back to the present day...

I've always been hated because I was different. Thats why I was more than happy when I found put I could shape shift into a human.
