Episode 9

Did she even lose her memory?
Or am I the one going crazy..?

"Hey, Kanji, what's wrong..?"

Jia placed her hand on Kanji's face. He turned towards her in shock as tears weld up in his eyes.

"Oh, I'm so sorry...I shouldn't have put my hands on you-"
"It's fine."

Suddenly, a gentle breeze blew in the cave as the glowing lady appeared.

"Hello, my sweet children."
"Mother!"

Jia happily got up and ran towards the glowing lady.

"How are you?"
"I'm fine dear.
"What about you, Kanji?"

Kanji jolted and looked at the glowing lady in surprise.

"Are you shocked? Don't be.
"You mean just as much as Jia does to me."
"I-I'm fine..."
"That's nice.
"Now..."

The glowing lady's face tensed as she sat next the the two.

"I have a favor to ask of you."
"What is it mother?" Jia asked excitedly.

The glowing lady looked at her in tears, then she cried,

"Could you guys save me?"

The two stared in disbelief and horror.

"S... save you..?"
"I-I can't give you much information...but here's a map.
"It will lead you to me."

Saying that, the glowing lady vanished.

"We have to save her!" Kanji yelled.

Jia nodded in agreement.

"We can head out in the morning, is that fine Jia?"
"Whatever works for you."
"Sigh...fine.
"Get some rest.
"We're heading out in the morning."
"Understood sir."
"Huh?"

Kanji turned to look at Jia in horror.
She had her head down low, as if she was respecting authority.

"Jia! Lift your head."

Jia obediently did so as Kanji rushed over.

"I'm not your 'sir.'
"I'm Kanji.
"You don't always have to do what I tell you to, you can do what you want to do as well!
"Remember that."
"Yes...Kanji."

Jia looked up at him, then wrapped herself around him.

What I want to do...?
I haven't heard anybody tell me that...
In a long time...
It was always to follow the rules, no matter what.

It's nice to be free.

Jia buried her face in Kanjis shoulders as tears fell down her face.

I'm going to like hanging around Kanji.

"Jia..?
"Are you awake?"

Kanji gently shook Jia, who was sleeping away soundly.

I'll let her rest a little longer.

Kanji got up and walked towards the cave entrance.

It's really nice outside...

"You mean just as much to me as Jia does."

I've never heard those words before.
I'm always used to everybody hating me, for being such a weak demon where I'd fall ill after transforming.
Even mother thought I was a mistake.
But...
A ghost lady loves me.

Kanji closed his eyes as the gentle breeze stroked his face.

It feels so nice to be-
ARGH!

"Ha ha ha ha ha....
"You amuse me.
"Did you think by killing off one of my puppets...
"That'd you'd get away any time soon?
"Don't worry though.
"I'm not really after you.
"I can't kill you anyways.
"And you have the demon laws of life to that for that.
"But like I said, I'm not after you...

"I'm after that girl you're traveling with."
