He looked down at her peaceful features illuminated by the soft sunlight pouring in through the window of his room. His hand gently brushed back the brown tresses falling messily around her and she shifted, burying her head deeper into the blanket to escape the light.
She was so delicate that it felt like she would snap like a twig if he held her any harder. That thought made him try to be gentle with her, careful not to break her under his own strength. But every caution, every thought went down the drain when he saw her.
Impulsive would be an understatement to describe his reaction to her. He was confused himself why he felt that way towards her but had no answer to that question.
Her arms had wrapped around his torso and she was still asleep while he considered whether or not to wake her up.
At last, he ran his fingers through her hair gently, waiting for her to wake up as a result.
Grey eyes fluttered open at that, a lazy smile playing upon her lips as she saw him. That smile made him want to kiss her so he closed his lips on hers gently.
But tasting her reminded him again of how much he craved her and it didn't take long for the moment to intensify.
Within seconds, he was pinning her down on the bed, his hands closed onto her delicate wrists and his mouth was going deeper to leave a patchwork of hickeys. The soft sounds that escaped her turned him on further but before anything else could happen between them, he reluctantly stopped.
The thought of her being too delicate fluttered in his head again, making him reconsider whether he should push things further or not.
"Didn't know you had such a specific way to say good morning," she breathed, her voice still shaky after the act that had just taken place.
"Good morning," he remarked, his fingers tugging loose a strand of her deep brown hair, "beautiful."
Her cheeks shaded red as she laughed, her hands that were resting on his chest felt a slight quickening in his heartbeat right then. "Don't blame me for what happens if you call me that again."
"What?" He raised an eyebrow playfully, "are you not beautiful?"
She shrugged, "I know I'm beautiful enough to have you ask me out again."
"And perhaps I'll ask you out more," he remarked, kissing her tenderly that once.
She melted under his touch, the sweet kisses feeling even more irresistible than the passionate ones.
"Are you going to offer me breakfast and a ride back today too?" She asked and his chest rumbled as he laughed.
"Oh I see, you stayed for breakfast."
A smile played upon her lips as well as she replied, "maybe. But seriously, Jason, you're a great cook. Just thinking about breakfast is now making me hungry."
"Noted. You're with me only for the food."
"And what do you have to say for yourself," she teased, poking his cheek with her index finger, "are you with me only for the sex?"
"Sounds wrong when you put it like that," he disentangled himself from her and she sat up as well, gathering her messy hair into a bun.
She still looked too damn irresistible, he thought but then tried feebly to distract himself.
"I don't mind," she shrugged, watching him halt in surprise, "it's better if we're not committed."
He turned to face her, gauging her expression, "let's discuss this over breakfast."
"Okay."
He had gone to freshen up first then went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. By the time Valerie came out, a delicious aroma was wafting through the air although it didn't smell like scrambled eggs and toast.
She hugged him from behind, feeling much more comfortable with him by then. They had slept together twice and he didn't make her feel scared to approach him.
She was shorter than him so even though she tried to peek over his shoulder to see what he was doing, she couldn't see clearly.
Sensing what she wanted to do, he turned and lifted her up as easily as if she was a glass doll, he placed her down on the counter he wasn't working at. She saw he was making pancakes and her eyes lit up.
"Ooooh, a fancy breakfast? Pancakes... I like it."
A ghost of a smile threatened to break out on his face at her response but he didn't say anything, flipping the pancake before it got burnt.
However, he realized that even though he was working right then and she was sitting rather close to him, her presence didn't irritate him. He was the sort of person who needed a squeaky clean workplace and utter silence to work but her lively chatter and her presence too close to him didn't annoy him like it should have normally.
That was another thing he had to add to the list of things about Valerie Kayes that he couldn't figure out.
Having her close instead had a very calming effect on him. Her voice was almost therapeutic and being able to lean in and kiss her cheek, nose, or forehead every now and then felt much more relaxing than anything else could.
In a while the pancakes were ready so he placed the dish on the breakfast counter and then returned to her with an unfathomable look in his eyes.
"What now?" She asked, feeling her heart race as he came to stand in between her legs, palms resting on the countertop on either side of her.
"You're so damn irresistible," he mumbled, his lips mere inches away from hers.
"So are you," she breathed in reply, her stomach twisting into knots at the thought of what he could do next.
But his lips merely teased her skin, brushing over her neck for hardly a second.
"Hey...!"
Her hands closed onto his shirt to pull him back towards her but he stepped away with a teasing smirk.
"Breakfast is getting cold, Valerie. And I believe we have something important to discuss too."
"I need one proper kiss before that," she remarked, widening her eyes in a pretty please look, "please."
He couldn't say no to that as he relented, his lips closing upon hers again for one proper kiss or so she had said.
Just one kiss was never possible as long as those two were concerned. That one kiss would turn into a heated makeout session and both of them were well aware of it, compromising the pancakes slightly over the current situation.
