We were camping at the bottom of a rocky mountain looking across the desert dirt to the cartel whereabouts below. The camo gear and high Bermuda grass hiding what didn't blend it.
Ghost and you were huddled next to each other on the ground behind the rock about a mile away from the site, he was ready to reveal himself any second like a lion in the savanna ready for its prey. It made you feel confident nothing was going to go wrong. You felt you could trust him to back you up.
"Gaz, Soap, we're ready whenever you are." Ghost says into his mic.
You look down at the beige ground while the heat pelts the top of your head making your helmet stuffy and your under eyes sweaty. You licked your lips tasting the salt forming and waited for the reply.
"Copy. Gaz, are you ready to have a fiesta?" They were waiting on the other side of the complex ready to fire when ready. Price made it clear to us on the way over that we couldn't mess this up and it needed to be streamlined or else it was going to be one of our asses.
"Let's party, Lucky Charms." A second later you heard shots being fired and bullets flying everywhere. You positioned yourself against the rock ready to haul ass into the building the moment Soap said it was clear. An explosion rumbled behind you giving the clue that Soap was up to no good.
"Don't fuck this is Viper." Ghost muttered to you in a deep husky voice. The heat was clearly affecting him too but not as much as you.
Your eyes rolled, "Ghost, as much as you want me to fuck up. I won't. And you can bet that on my life."
You went back and gripped your pistol a bit harder. The nerve he had to say that after the sparring the two of you had yesterday? Wasn't it enough that you could match him in a fight?
Minutes passed before a bullet struck the rock behind the two of you spraying dust and pebbles onto your uniforms. Silence echoed the desert air besides a few bullets hitting objects in the distance.
"CLEAR!"
You got up as fast as you could and started to run to the nearest building, eyeballing the bodies as you went in case someone was faking their death at the last minute to attack.
Ghost close on your heels, the two of you gained ground closer to one of the far buildings.
"Soap, which building am I headed for?" I look around and your right shoulder hit the wall.
Ghost following behind and copying your movements, "Two buildings to the right. Door is open from the bomb. I'll have eyes on it until you guys get out."
"Roger." Ghost replies behind you and his deep voice echoes through the mic in your ear. You had to admit that it was strange having someone else watch your back other than Konig.
As you pass the first building, Ghost separates from you to inspect it.
"Going to check this building. Continue without me."
"Ghost, that isn't what we're supposed to be doing!" You say in a low voice.
He ignores you and disappears in the doorway of it.
"Soap, Ghost is in the first building. I'm going into the second one alone. Watch the doorway."
"Stay frosty, Viper."
You aim your gun in on the doorway and search the top of the floor. You could see there was a second level with trucks and boxes. No one seemed to be in the weapon building.
"No one here. I'm going down the stairs to identify what's in these boxes." Y/N descended down the step quietly. The small echoes of footsteps on the metal stairs were the only thing to be heard.
The huge wooden crates were stashed in the truck beds of the cars that looked new and familiar. You stopped in front of them and put your gun on the seat in the vehicle. Taking your knife out, you jam it between the lid; a few grunts later it pops off. You side the lid over and you feel the blood drain out of your face.
