chapter twenty one

BAKUGOU'S P.O.V.

After some time of just sitting around, I stand up abruptly. I can't believe I'm just sitting around there while Y/N and Todoroki went off. The air around me crackles with tension as I declare, "I'm going after them!" In a tone filled with a mix of anger and concern.

But before I can get anywhere, Midoriya steps forward, his eyes wide. He reaches out to grab my arm, pleading with me to reconsider. "Bakugou, it's not safe to go off on your own," he insists, his voice tinged with worry.

I push him away, my impatience getting the best of me. "I don't care," I snap, my voice sharp. With a frustrated sigh, I force my Bluetooth device into Midoriya's hand, demanding, "Watch this for me. I'll find them."

I then storm off, following the direction Y/N and Todoroki went. The tunnel leads me deeper into darkness, and my heart pounds in my chest. When I finally reach the collapsed section, my breath catches in my throat. Panic grips me as I call out their names, but there's no response. I dig with all my might, my hands scraping against the unyielding rubble, but my efforts prove useless.

Defeated, I'm forced to trudge back to Midoriya and Sero. I can't bring myself to meet their gaze as I deliver the devastating news. "They're trapped. The tunnel's collapsed a little ways up ahead," I mutter, my voice barely above a whisper, filled with sorrow and regret.

And then, that haunting voice from before slithers into our consciousness, its words dripping with evil. "They're dead," it taunts, its sinister tone sending chills down my spine. Midoriya and Sero share a worried look, their eyes reflecting the same determination burning within me. There's no way we'll let the other two be lost in the darkness. We will find a way to save them, no matter what it takes.

Y/N'S P.O.V.

You take a deep breath, your mind racing with the weight of the situation. "Now what?" you ask, your voice filled with uncertainty.

Todoroki meets your gaze, his eyes reflecting a resolute calmness like always. "The only thing we can do is keep moving forward," he replies, his voice steady. "We have to continue with the mission. Besides, there's nothing else we can do. We don't have any kind of supplies to dig ourselves out this time."

You nod, acknowledging the truth in his words. You can't afford to give up or be consumed by despair. And so, you press on, navigating the treacherous tunnels with caution.

However, as you do, the tunnel becomes increasingly unstable. The ground trembles beneath your feet, and a rumbling sound fills the air. Suddenly, a loud crash booms through the tunnel as a section of the passage crumbles in front of you, separating you from Todoroki.

Panic surges within you, your heart pounding in your chest. The fear of losing your last friend intensifies, but you refuse to let it paralyze you. Adrenaline courses through your veins, sharpening your senses as you scan the area for any means to bridge the gap.

"Y/N, what do we do?" Todoroki's voice trembles. He looks at you, his eyes wide with concern.

"I don't know, but look for something to help," you respond, your voice determined despite the queasiness in your stomach. "We need to find a way to cross."

Luckily, your gaze lands on a fallen metal beam nearby, its twisted form catching your attention. Without hesitation, you point towards it. "Todoroki, I'm going to grab that beam. We can use it as a makeshift bridge."

You then rush towards the fallen beam, struggling to lift it off the ground. Sweat beads on your brow as you use up every ounce of strength, your muscles straining under the weight.

"Grab hold of the other side!" you urge, your voice laced with determination as you begin to bring it closer to his side of the gap. "Don't let it fall down!"

With a final burst of effort, you manage to place the beam into position, creating a narrow pathway across the perilous gap. Breathing heavily, you exchange a brief glance with Todoroki, acknowledging the risk and uncertainty that lies before you.

"It's your only way forward," Todoroki says, his voice steady, a spark of determination in his eyes. "You can do this, Y/N."

With a shared nod, you step onto the makeshift bridge, cautiously testing its stability. The metal creaks under your weight, but it holds, providing a slender lifeline amidst the chaos.

"Oh my god," you whisper nervously as you begin to make your way across.

"You can do it. Keep going," he responds nervously as he watches your every move.

The journey across the bridge is tense, each step calculated and deliberate. The sound of your own heartbeat pounds in your ears.

As you finally reach the other side, your heart still pounding from the adrenaline-fueled feat, a mix of relief and exhaustion washes over you. Todoroki's voice breaks the silence, his tone filled with genuine admiration.

"You made it," he says in slight awe.

With a fleeting glance, the unspoken connection between you grows stronger. The air crackles with an unspoken tension, and instinctively, you both lean in, closing the remaining distance between you. His lips meet yours in a gentle, tender kiss.

The world around you seems to fade away, replaced by the warmth of the moment. In each other's arms, you find comfort and a shared determination to face whatever lies ahead.

But as quickly as the moment materializes, the reality of your mission resurfaces, reminding you of the dangers that still loom. Reluctantly, you pull away, gazes lingering as your breaths intertwine.

"We should keep moving," Todoroki whispers, his voice carrying a mix of regret and determination. "We don't know how much farther we've still got to reach the spacecraft and, more importantly right now, supplies."

Hand in hand, you and Todoroki continue your journey, walking side by side, ready to confront whatever awaits you in the depths of the underground tunnels.
