chapter twenty six

Together, you and Sero stealthily maneuver through the dark corridors, your heart pounding with adrenaline as you exchange whispered words to coordinate your actions.

"You see that next camera up ahead?" you ask, your voice barely audible.

"Yeah, got it in sight," Sero replies, his tone calm and focused.

With synchronized movements, Sero rips off a big piece of his tape, skillfully wrapping it around the camera lens, rendering it useless.

"Nice work," you commend him, a hint of relief in your voice. "Let's keep going."

Moving with practiced stealth, you continue to disable the cameras one by one, each time communicating with Sero to ensure a smooth operation.

"Two guards patrolling on the left," Sero murmurs, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Got it," you reply, carefully avoiding their line of sight. "We need to stay undetected."

"Wait hold on-" he then cuts you off. "Do you hear that?"

As you listen closely, the guards are singing. You give Sero a confused look as the guards begin to sing, "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older? Then we wouldn't have to wait so long..."

"What the hell are they on?" Sero chuckles.

"Shh," you attempt to stay serious, despite the comical moment. But then, the two of you know you have to get back to business, disabling the rest of the security systems without triggering any alarms.

Finally, standing in the control room, you and Sero exchange a glance. You've finally finished and now it's just up to the others to take out the guards one by one.

As Sero settles into a chair, he playfully teases, "Ahh, doesn't sitting here waiting make you just want to sing some Beach Boys?"

Rolling your eyes, you respond with a smirk, "Oh, shut up. Maybe that was Brian Wilson out there."

Moments later, the rest of the group returns. They eagerly ask about your progress, and Sero confidently reports on the success of disabling the cameras. "It went well," he remarks, glancing at the others. "How about you guys?"

Midoriya, with a determination in his eyes, explains how he managed to take out a group of guards, knocking them out and placing them in the solitary rooms.

"Guys, we can talk about this later," Todoroki then interrupts. "We've got to free the hostages. We can't waste any more time."

All agreeing, your group collects their gear. You then make your way to where the scientists are being held captive. Adrenaline courses through your veins as you prepare for your attack and, with a nod from Todorki, you begin.

Swiftly, your group uses the element of surprise and a combination of coordinated maneuvers to overpower the rival group and render them helpless before you.

Mei's eyes widen as she watches the five of you like the Avengers were standing before her. Relief washes over her face as she realizes she'll finally be free once again.

After you and the others untie the scientists and the rest of the hostages, the room erupts in a mixture of emotions. Mei rushes up to you, her eyes brimming with tears as she wraps her arms around you. "Thank you, Y/N. I'm so glad you guys came back. You're our hero!"

ONE WEEK LATER

Ever since the overtaking by Mina and the other rebels, the scientists have worked on reestablishing their lab with updated, untampered equipment, charts, and research materials. But even with all the bright, shiny new things, Ida still calls upon you and Todoroki for his help.

"What do you think he wanted to see just the two of us for?" you ask Todoroki just before stepping into the new lab.

"No clue," he shakes his head just as Ida comes into view.

"Y/N, Todoroki," Ida begins once he notices the two of you. "Thank you for meeting me. I know our group has come a long way, facing a whole bunch of obstacles together, but now there is something new on the horizon which requires a different approach."

Todoroki listens attentively, his eyes fixed on Ida. "What do you mean?" he asks, a hint of anticipation in his voice.

Ida's gaze shifts between the two of you. "We need a plan," he begins, "a strategy for our long-term survival in this underground environment. We can no longer rely on expeditions to the outside world anymore. We must make this place a sustainable bunker capable of supporting us indefinitely."

Your mind races as you try to piece together the huge task that he's about to place on your shoulders. "So, you're asking us to do what exactly?" you ask with apprehension in your tone.

A small grin tugs at the corners of Ida's lips. "Y/N, I need your resourcefulness, strategic thinking, and persuasive words to help get this plan across on the right foot with the others."

"But I'm not persuasive at all..." you begin, just as he turns to Todoroki.

"Todoroki, your analytical mind, adaptability, and strength will be crucial in implementing and maintaining the systems we create."

Todoroki's gaze meets yours, watching the uncertainty in your eyes. "We won't let you down, Ida," he then nods. "We'll do our best to ensure the safety of the others."

"I know you will," Ida replies, extending his arm out to shake Todorki's. "I have full faith in both of you. Together, with the support and collective effort of our team, we will forge a future where we can survive within these confines.

"Where should we begin?" you then ask, still wondering exactly what it is they want you to do.

Ida raises a hand, gesturing for patience. "Let us finalize the details first before assigning specific tasks. I just wanted to give both of you a heads up about the future and the roles you will play."

Todoroki glances at you and then back at Ida. "Are we allowed to discuss this with the others?"

"Not yet," Ida shakes his head. "For now, let's keep it within our immediate circle. We need to ensure that the plan is solid before revealing it to the rest of the group."

Just then, Mina walks into the room, and an air of tension fills the space. Your instincts immediately go on high alert as you watch her walk in cautiously. Mina approaches Ida, her expression a mix of confusion and curiosity.

"You called for me?" she asks as she shamefully looks toward you and Todoroki.

"Yes, Mina. I called for you to apologize to Y/N and Todoroki for your actions and for endangering their lives," Ida says sternly.

Mina's eyes widen and her shoulders slump as the weight of her mistake settles upon her. "I'm really sorry," she says in a voice laced with remorse. "I really wasn't thinking and I've already started packing my things."

Ida's sternness softens as he continues, "That's not what I called you in here for. I believe in redemption, Mina, and have decided to offer you a chance to stay with us under one condition. You will become my assistant."

A smile tugs at the corner of your lips as you watch a parallel situation unfold before you from the way you and Sero had formed your relationship.

Mina, however, has a different reaction. She's quite obviously frustrated and tries to protest, but deep down, you know that this will lead her to form a stronger connection to what you're all fighting for.
