chapter nine

As your group continues walking, Bakugou can't help but voice his impatience. "Do you even know where the hell we're going, Todoroki?"

Todoroki snaps back, a hint of irritation in his voice. "We should be there soon enough if you just shut up and keep walking."

Bakugou vents his frustration, his voice filled with doubt. "Is this damn trip even worth it? We've been through so much, and for what?"

You step forward, feeling a surge of anger at his inconsiderate comment. "Bakugou, remember why we're doing this. Uraraka's life is on the line. She's counting on us to find the supplies she needs. We can't let her down."

Todoroki interrupts the conversation, pointing ahead. "Look, there it is. The hospital."

As you approach, the once gleaming building stands before you in a state of disarray. Broken windows, faded signs, and a sense of abandonment fill the air. Inside, the hospital's once bustling corridors now echo with emptiness and decay. The remnants of a struggle are evident, with overturned furniture and shattered glass strewn across the floors.

Your heart sinks as you realize the harsh reality before you. The hospital has been ransacked, its precious supplies pillaged by others in desperate need. Cabinets are left ajar, their contents emptied, while medical equipment lies scattered and broken.

Todoroki's expression mirrors your disappointment, his eyes scanning the desolate scene. It's clear that their hopes of finding the necessary supplies have been dashed.

Todoroki's voice carries a tinge of disappointment. "I had hoped we would find what we needed here."

Bakugou's frustration boils over as he looks around. "What a waste of time! Are we just gonna keep searching for something that doesn't exist?"

You take a deep breath, reminding yourself and your teammates of the purpose of their journey. "Didn't you hear what I already said before? Uraraka is counting on us. We can't give up!"

"We're going to die if we keep-" he begins before getting cut off by Todoroki.

Todoroki points ahead, his gaze fixed on a distant room. "Look, there might still be something left. Let's check that area."

As you follow Todoroki's lead, the dimly lit room comes into view. It's a stark contrast to the rest of the hospital. Cabinets and shelves are partially intact, offering a glimmer of hope.

You step closer, assessing the situation. "It might not be everything we need, but we can salvage what's left. Let's gather whatever supplies we can and regroup."

With cautious optimism, you scan the shelves filled with medicine bottles and supplies. Your heart skips a beat as you spot a small vial labeled "Antibiotics." It's a potential lifeline for Uraraka's pneumonia.

Carefully, you retrieve the vial and examine it. The expiration date hasn't passed, and the seal remains intact. It's a small victory amidst the disappointment of the ransacked hospital.

Clutching the vial tightly, you feel a renewed sense of hope. It may not be a complete solution, but it's a crucial step toward helping Uraraka. Determined, you gather other essential medications and supplies that could aid in her recovery.

Excitement bubbles within you as you turn to Bakugou and Todoroki. "Guys, I found some antibiotics," you announce, holding up the vial for them to see. "It's not much, but it could make a difference for Uraraka."

Bakugou's eyes widen, a spark of hope igniting in his fierce gaze. "Damn, that's good news. About time we catch a break," he mutters, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Todoroki nods, his voice steady with determination. "And I found some electrical wiring we can use for the generator. It should help restore power to the shelter," he adds, presenting the coil of wire he secured.

You accept it happily, grateful for Todoroki's resourcefulness. "That's fantastic, Todoroki. With the antibiotics and the wiring, we're one step closer to providing the care and comfort our group needs."

As you carefully tuck the precious findings into your bag, you can't help but feel a flicker of relief. It may not be an ideal outcome, but it's a glimmer of hope.

After leaving the hospital, you search for a safe place to rest before returning to the shelter. Eventually, you discover a small abandoned building that provides some shelter from the elements.

As night falls, you settle down to sleep. Not long after, however, you're awakened by whispers and see Bakugou and Todoroki entering the small building together. They excitedly show you a small rabbit they caught nearby.

"We got lucky," Bakugou says with a triumphant tone. "Found this little guy nearby. We've got dinner."

Todoroki nods, a slight smile on his face. "It's not much, but it's something," he adds.

As the darkness envelops the surroundings, the three of you gather some dry wood and create a small fire. The flickering flames cast a warm glow, providing a sense of comfort in the desolate night.

Bakugou takes charge, arranging the wood and igniting it. "There we go. A little light and warmth," he says with a satisfied smile.

Todoroki retrieves the rabbit and prepares it for cooking. "We're lucky to have caught this. It'll make a good meal," he says, his focus on the task at hand.

While the fire crackles and the aroma of cooking fills the air, you assist by gathering some edible plants you spotted earlier. "These will make a nice addition to our meal," you say, holding up the gathered greens.

As the rabbit cooks over the open flame, the scent grows stronger, making your stomach growl in anticipation. The three of you sit around the fire, sharing stories and laughter as you patiently wait for the meal to be ready.

Finally, with mouths watering, you enjoy the satisfying taste of the cooked rabbit, grateful for the nourishment it provides in this challenging journey.

After finishing the meal, you and Bakugou take on the task of cleaning up. Side by side, you gather the remains of the fire and dispose of the leftover food scraps.

Bakugou, unexpectedly, breaks the silence. "You're not as useless as I thought," he grumbles, but there's a hint of genuine appreciation in his voice.

You pause and offer a smile. "Thanks, Bakugou. I'm glad you came along. Despite your temper, you've proven to be a valuable member of the team."

He scoffs, but his expression softens a bit. "Don't get sappy, but... yeah, I guess I'm glad I'm here too."

You can't help but laugh, the tension of the moment breaking with your light-hearted response. Bakugou rolls his eyes, his tough facade momentarily cracking.

"Alright, alright, no need to get all mushy on me," he grumbles, though a faint hint of amusement glimmers in his eyes. "But yeah, I guess having me around isn't so bad after all."

You share a playful smirk, appreciating the rare moment of friendship between you. In these small exchanges, you see glimpses of the person beneath Bakugou's rough exterior.

With the area all cleaned up, you and Bakugou sit down in a comfortable silence. The fire crackles gently, providing warmth and a soothing sound. You both take a moment to relax and enjoy the peace.
