Nine
Riding inside my car without her seemed gloomy and long, like I was riding on an endless road. It was always like this before I settled here in Arrowstone, riding in my car after I killed some Venalians, taking a sleep then off again. Over and over again, it was always like that.
My killing-spree had begun when the Colloquium was no more in Milan. Some others hide in the dark and some went to join the surviving members and settle in a different place. But me, I went off stalking Venalians. I had no family left so I thought that killing them may bring justice to their deaths.
But it was not enough. There were tons of Venalians. It’s hard to take them all off especially if their leader was still living immortally.
My killing-spree ended―until now, it started again―when I saw her best friend at Starbucks, ordering a latte.
Her best friend was like me. She doesn’t have the ability to resurrect and if she died, she really is dead.
Camilla Ventilia.
She talked to me about a student named Stella Hamilton and her brother that they were a relative of her. Camilla also asked me to look after these siblings especially Stella because her best friend or the leader of the Venalians may go after her.
“Please, William. You have to look after Stella. She’s our chance to save our kind and eliminate Venalians.” Camilla told me.
“After what happened, you’ll ask me to look at that Stella?” I barked at her.
“I’m sure she heard of Stella since she has sources but William, we have to protect her.” She still pleaded her case but I don’t have time for that. I was done with it.
“I don’t want to be in that situation again. I’m done. I don’t want to experience it, again! Do you know how much it killed me knowing she went against us? I loved her but she betrayed us especially me.”
Camilla took my hand and caressed it, “William, maybe she really was not the one. Maybe she really was meant to be with your brother. Please, just do this for your sake, look after Stella. After all, she’s part of their family. The only difference is that Stella’s not that full-fledged like us, but I’m sure she will experience Alteration. Her brother is experiencing it right now, Karen’s the one assigned to him.”
I leaned back at my chair, controlling my laugh. Me, going back to high school? I wonder how it would turn out. “So you’re telling me, I’m assigned to this Stella?”
“Yes. You are.”
I can’t ignore her order because Camilla’s part of the Colloquium. Camilla’s the one representing the Ventilia family. A leader.
That was why it will be my fault if something bad happened to Stella.
Stella.
The first time I saw her, she was remarkably beautiful. Beautiful that it made my heart pound once again. But I should be hard. I should not let these feelings swelling at me. It should not be.
But whoa! She surprised me. She blabbered at me at the Main Lobby and I counterfeited everything she said. She was taken aback and she hated me.
