A/N: Hiii! This is my first fanfic having to do with the military, so if some of my language isn't entirely accurate when it comes to military terms and behavior I apologize. It's a slow burn, but I promise it will get good. If you have any constructive criticism feel free to let me know and I'll do my best to rework the correction into the story. When describing the reader I'm going to try to be as vague as possible so that you guys can have the freedom to imagine yourself in the story :PAs I step up into the chopper, buckling myself in, I feel like I am going to vomit. The sound of the helicopter ringing in my head I close my eyes and let out a deep sigh, trying to hold my composure and keep the contents of my stomach down.
"Are we ready to roll out?" A voice of a man suddenly pulls me out of my concentration. Looking up I notice it's the pilot.
"Yes sir! I'm all set."
As the man raises the chopper in the air I see the ground get further and further away. I lean my head back once again, just trying to hold it together. A few weeks ago I sent in an application for the task force 141. I heard rumors and gossip about how grueling the work can be but regardless I applied. A part of me hoped I didn't get accepted, but I knew if I did it would help me further my career.
I am trained sniper. I am a damn good shot, best in my squad. I loved my fellow soldiers, well...most of them...but I knew I wasn't reaching my full potential here. The day to day routines and the small missions became redundant. I needed something more."We've got about six hours, get comfy!" The pilot yells to me, a sort of snark behind his words. I get the feeling he can see the nauseous look on my face.
"Where are we going?" I yell to the pilot, making sure my voice can be heard over the numbingly loud whooshing of the helicopter.
"A little town on the border of Austria and Germany, I hope you brought your jacket!" He smiles, almost mockingly, almost like he knows something I don't.
A few hours pass of me going in and out of a state of nausea. Whether it's from the nerves or the rocking of the helicopter i'm unsure. I pull out a photo of my late father from my chest pocket, stroking his face lightly with my thumb before putting it back and falling asleep.
Im suddenly woken up from the bang of the helicopter landing on the roof of the base...my new home.
I thank the pilot, grab my duffel bag, and sling my sniper rifle over my shoulder by the strap and step out. The cold air is piercing, suddenly regretting my choice to join the task force in the dead of winter. The quick breeze racing across my face, smacking ice onto my skin causing a small burn each time.
A tall man with a mustache exits the door on the roof and extends his hand out to me, shaking it firmly before giving me a warm but stern smile. "My name is Captain Price! Lets get you inside to meet the rest of the crew!"
I follow Price inside, relaxing a little as I step into the warm building hearing the door creek shut behind me. We walk down two sets of stairs and enter a hallway, the sound of laughter coming from the distance.
"Your name is Y/N, Right?" Price asks and I nod, taking in my surroundings. The walls and the floors are lined with cement, the lights hanging from the ceiling emitting a warm yellow light. We walk down the hall and round a corner, seeing a handful of men talking and cracking jokes. Two couches rest on the left side of the room and a small TV is mounted to the wall. There is a small assortment of decor placed on the walls and there are a few plants. The decorations seem to be a desperate attempt to make the base look a little more "cozy" more "home-like" and less intimidating.
"Everyone!" Price calls out, placing his hands on his hips. "Meet Y/N."
I wave, once again saying nothing. I scan the room, ensuring I make eye contact with everyone. At my last base I made the mistake of being too friendly. Nobody took me seriously regardless of my skills and my small height never seemed to help, either.
