A/N: I published the chapter without a name at first so the name of this chapter may be changed later! FLUFF FLUFF FLUFF!!!!!I let out a relieved sigh as the sound of the helicopter was far off in the distance and I turned back to the red building I found the baby in. I wanted to cry. I wanted to collapse to the ground and sob. I felt like a giant weight I've been carrying since the warehouse was lifted off my shoulders and I could finally breathe.
Ghost looked me up and down quickly for a moment, scanning me. I gave him a weak smile and pulled my pistol out of the holder as we walked toward the same building I found the baby in. Myself, Ghost, and a few German soldiers rushed in quickly, ensuring that if Sauer was in the building he couldn't escape from us.
"He is in here somewhere. Check every corner, closet, under everything...Check for hidden or concealed doors as well." I said opening a hallway closet in the living room of the red building, pointing my pistol in as I did.
A handful of German soldiers spread out throughout the house, clearing every corner imaginable. Just as we were about to lose hope Ghost whistled to get my attention from the kitchen, pointing at a small cabinet under the stairs. I nodded and creeped up to the cabinet door. I turned to look at Ghost as I held onto the knob, waiting for his go ahead. He gave me a nod and I swung the door open, raising my pistol up as I did. The sight I saw was enough to make me bust out laughing.
There he was. Sauer. He had himself crouched down in the small space and as he looked up at me his eyes were wide and he was visibly terrified. I looked up at Ghost who was staring down at Sauer, his eyes wide before he started snickering. I turned back to Sauer and reached in, snatching him by the collar and yanking him out. "Lets go, Harry Potter."
I backed up and shoved him against the wall where Ghost pulled out a Zip Tie from a pocket on his waist and Zip Tied Sauers hands behind his back. He guided him out of the house as I called for the German Soldiers. All that gunfire and bloodshed just to find this dumbass crouched down in a god damn cabinet.
As we led him back to a heavily armored truck and shoved him in I felt every emotion imaginable.
I was proud, excited, angry, sad, relieved, upset, the whole nine. I climbed into the back of our truck with my crew as we drove off, Price telling us to RTB. A few men stayed behind to collect the casualties so they would have a proper burial.
Bailey's absence in the truck was gut-wrenching. I felt responsible for his death in a way. I sat there gas-lighting myself like I always do. Maybe if I wasn't so hard on him he would have calmed down and lived. What if I gave him more advice? Was I responsible for his death?
I sat in the truck and bounced my leg as I chewed on my finger thinking about the fact that Bailey had the guts to throw a live grenade out of the room, easily saving my life and the babies life. I owe him my life and there was nothing I could do to save him.
I felt Königs hand on my face as he brushed a few stray hairs behind my ear and I turned to face him, his soft comforting touch making me want to cry. I promised myself I would hold it together but his presence was making it harder to keep my head on straight.
"You did good, mein liebling." He said softly, now rubbing my hair with his hand.
All I could do was nod and lay my head on his shoulder as he rested his hand on my leg, rubbing it slightly. For the rest of the ride I kept my eyes closed, running the entire mission over and over again in my head, wondering what I could have done differently. Torturing myself.
As we pulled up to the base I practically flew out of the truck, preparing to run inside the base and find the baby but a woman in a combat medic outfit ran out, searching the trucks frantically. She immediately recognized to me and ran up to me, grabbing me firmly and repeating something in German in a panicked voice. I turned to König who was walking up to me quickly as he saw the scene unfold. His eyes went wide and then he turned to me, giving me an empathetic glare.
