I grabbed the grocery bags out of the back of the SUV. I bought a few Microwave Pizza Roll boxes for me, a couple fruit salads for JJ, and the book for Avery. The book "Seventh Day Killer" is about it's author's kidnapping experience. I can see why Avery wanted to read it. Barbara Stacy was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend because she dumped him. His plan ended with suicide by cop. I walked into the hospital then to Avery's room. JJ wasn't in the room, it was just Avery.

"Hey."I said.

"Hey. You got my book?"she asked.

"Yeah. Where's JJ?"

"She went to see if I can eat something."

"Are you feeling ok?"I asked. She gave me a Seriously look with her striking, blue eyes. I knew that if I was going to ask her, I had to ask now.

"I'm fine Derek."she said as I handed her her book.

"Avery. I kinda have to ask you something."I said.

"Yeah?"

"Will you...will you go out with me?"I asked then JJ walked in with a tray of food.

"Oh. Hey Morgan."She said.

"Hey JJ."I said. She walked over to Avery and handed her the food-tray.

"Thank you...JJ."Avery stuttered, "I'll get back to you on that, Morgan."

"Oookkk. You guys want to tell me what's going on?"JJ asked while leaning on her crutches.

"No."Avery and I said in unison.

"Uuhhh. JJ, I bought you some fruit salads if you want them."I said.

"Oh thanks." she replied as I handed her her food.

I was grabbing the fruit salads when I noticed Avery was staring at me. I thought I knew what Avery "had to get back to Derek" about.

"Derek, can I talk to you in the hall?"I asked.

"Yeah." he replied. I hobbled into the hall and Derek shut he door behind us, "What's up?" 

 "How do feel about Avery?" I asked.

"What do you mean how do I feel about her?" his voice cracked.

"Derek."

"What do you want me to say JJ? You want me to say that 'I think she is my best friend'?"

"I just don't want you to lie to me. You know what Hotch thinks about team members dating."

"I feel like if she dies, I won't be able to live with myself. Is that what you wanted to hear?"He explained.

"So the thing that she has to 'get back to you' about..."I said but he interrupted.

"I asked her out, happy? I don't care what Hotch thinks. I would leave the Bureau for her."he walked back into Avery's room.

"What did I just screw up?" I said to myself.

Derek walked back into my room, he looked like he just got out of a fight.

"Hey you ok?"I asked.

"I'm fine." he replied. That wasn't a good enough answer.

"Derek?" I nagged.

"I said I'm fine, Avery!"he yelled.

"Ok then."I said. He has never yelled at me before. Tears began to form in my eyes. He stepped out of the room and walked out of view of the room's window. Tears started to roll down my cheek. JJ walked into the room and I wiped my eyes and cheeks.

"Avery are you ok?" she asked.

"Yeah."I sniffed,"I'm good."

"What did he say?"

"I noticed that he was mad and he said he was fine. I bugged him further and he snapped."

"This is my fault."JJ said as she sat down next to me.

"What did you say to him?" I asked. I became filled with rage.

"I'm so sorry, Avery."

"What..Did you..Say..To Him?!" my face became red with anger. JJ's eyes began to turn read with tears. This was the only times had seen me mad.

"I asked him how he felt about you and he got really defensive. I needed to know how he felt so I could hide his actions from Hotch. Hotch has a very strict rule about dating other team members." She started to let her tears fall,"I was trying to stop the job from getting in the way of you and Derek's feelings. My husband is a police officer and Hotch started to tell me that the job is the most important during a case. Will, my husband, was the only thing on my mind for a case and Hotch made me take a week off to get my mind strait. I made a decision and now you have to pay for it."

"JJ...I."

"Don't be sorry." she said as she wiped her tears off her cheeks. I grabbed her hand. I could not stay mad at JJ.

"JJ, you are one of my best friends. I could never stay mad at you. Now, let's forget this ever happened."I said.
