A black cat jumped from the overhead railings down onto the train compartment's seat, it's sharp claws puncturing the soft material. A girl with long brown hair was sat next to the window reading a book. She looked up when the door slid open.

"Why must you keep me from your beauty, darling Elodie?"

Elodie rolled her eyes. The train had not even left the station and the compliments had already began. She placed her book on the seat, ensuring that the page was clearly marked.

"If you were on time you would not be kept from my beauty, sweet Carina."

Carina smiled teasingly at her friend, taking the seat opposite her. Her pale hand reached over to smooth the cat where a quiet purring sounded.

"It wasn't my fault this time."

Elodie raised an eyebrow, not believing this for a second. Over the seven years she had known the Malfoy girl, it was clear that Carina had no time for time. She was late to breakfast, to lessons, to Quidditch practices. Elodie had tried everything to keep her on time. Newsflash, it never worked.

"Don't look at me like that, I'm telling the truth."

Another interesting fact about Carina Malfoy. She lied. A lot. You wouldn't notice it though unless you actually knew her. The sugary lies rolled off her tongue as easily as breathing. They won't question you as long as you say it with confidence. Elodie usually had a comment to disprove this.

"We both know it was your fault. Let me guess, your hair was frizzy. No, your eyes made you look like a panda—."

"Firstly, my hair is never frizzy."

Ever since the boy hero had started at Hogwarts, the level of teaching had seriously decreased. Carina was sure she would be a better teacher than most of them. At least she had someone to blame for low grades. However, she didn't know they were paid so little that the professors had to get the train to Hogwarts. It was the only explanation.

Professor R.J.Lupin looked tired to say the least. His ruffled hair and crumpled suit proved this to be true. Carina theorised that he had just woken up, or had hitched a ride on the roof of the train. Whichever your prefer. The scarred man had checked on each carriage after the dementors had left. How kind of him. Useless but kind.

When he reached Carina and Elodie's compartment, it was safe to say he wasn't exactly welcomed. The two girls looked at him as if he had caught them with a dead body. They had been playing an enchanted card game, wrapped up in their coats, when he knocked on the door and slid it open.

"Sorry for interrupting, I wanted to make sure everyone was okay after the dementors boarded."

Carina and Elodie shared a look. A silent plead, determining who would speak to this stranger. Elodie looked down smugly, leaving Carina to do the talking. The grey eyed girl straightened her posture before turning reluctantly to meet his eyes.

"We are fine, thank you."

Professor Lupin seemed to be unaffected by her dry response. Perhaps he had expected it, or he was used to hearing them from people. In fact, he wore a grin and held a weird glint in his eye and nodded before leaving.

A small hit to side of her arm caught Carina's attention. Elodie was staring at her amused.

"You didn't have to be a bitch."
