chapter title: "one way or another" by blondie
By the time lessons were over and evening had rolled around, the Marauders were welcomed into the common room with cheers and applause. James and Sirius were clapped on the back about a dozen times and congratulated endlessly on the success of the match as the four of them made their way to the front of the common room where their stage was still set up. (no one had bothered to take it down after Sirius' birthday and it now seemed to have acquired its place as a somewhat permanent fixture.)
James immediately leapt up onto the stage with a big grin on his face as the crowd of excited Gryffindors whooped and cheered.
"Alright, Gryffindors!" James called out into the microphone. "We've been practising a new song for you and thought we'd play it for you after the success of the match!"
Another cheer echoes through the room.
"Take it away Sirius!"
Sirius started up his guitar which he had slung over his shoulder before Peter and Remus joined in before James started singing. They had been practising One Way or Another by Blondie simply because James had walked into their shared dorm when Remus had been lying on his bed listening to Parallel Lines spinning on the record player. James had immediately taken a liking to it and. Remus half wondered if James somewhat identified with the song... It sounded an awful lot like his pursuit of Lily in certain parts.
One way, or another, I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna get ya, get ya, get ya, get ya
One way, or another, I'm gonna win ya
I'm gonna get ya, get ya, get ya, get ya
One way, or another, I'm gonna see ya
I'm gonna meet ya, meet ya, meet ya, meet ya
One day, maybe next week
I'm gonna meet ya, I'm gonna meet ya, I'll meet yaThe crowd of Gryffindors were loving it. There seemed to be even more of a crowd this time than there had been at Sirius' birthday, much to Remus' surprise. He even noticed a few faces amongst the sea of dancing students that there were Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws.
Someone had obviously let it slip that the Marauders were playing tonight, and the news must have travelled fast. They were growing in popularity, Remus could see that.
Remus couldn't help but notice the feeling of warmth inside him as he sat at the piano, fingers gliding gracefully over the keys as the common room was alight with music and dancing.
As they were finishing the song however, the portrait hole suddenly burst open. Sirius instantly stopped playing and James' voice faltered as the Gryffindors all turned to see who had entered. Remus quickly took his hands from the keys, and Peter accidentally hit one of the symbols as the portrait slammed shut.
"What is all this racket?!" McGonagall looked appalled. She was wearing a deep green tartan dressing gown and her hair was not in its usual twisted bun. "It is almost midnight! People are trying to get to sleep! Or at least they should be!" She cast a stern glare over the crowd of students. "Now I am equally as pleased with Gryffindor's success in the match this morning as you are but that is no reason to be blasting music at this hour when you have classes tomorrow! To bed, all of you! As for you four, detention tomorrow night." She gestured to the Marauders, shaking her head in disbelief before leaving back the way she came.
"Does this mean this is our last show?" Asked Peter, anxiously.
"Not a chance, mate." James reassured him, quietly. "But seriously, we need to remember to put silencing charms on the room!" He groaned as they started to pack their stuff up.
"Ah well, it was a good show, if a very short one." Remus replied.
Sirius grinned. "Yeah, definitely not the last show, Pete. We're too fantastic."
