chapter title: "oh! sweet nuthin'" by the velvet underground
The full moon was better than it had ever been before the Marauders became animagi, but not as comfortable as it was when Remus had all three of his friends there beside him. He awoke in the hospital wing the next morning with Sirius snoring softly beside him and a few scars over his body that he usually could have avoided, but nothing lethal and he was otherwise unscathed.
Remus didn't wake Sirius, just let his friend sleep quietly beside him, his head resting on Remus' bed, inky black curls spilling over the crisp white sheets. It was still snowing outside and Sirius was in a thin black shirt, and though Madam Pomfrey seemed to have given him a blanket whilst he waited for Remus to wake up, he was still shivering and Remus felt that rush of guilt once more when he saw what his friends sacrificed to help him through his transformations.
Remus sighed, wishing he could do something, as Sirius stirred in his sleep, turning his head to face Remus before blinking slowly awake and staring blearily up at Remus.
"Hiya Moony." He said softly, his voice deep and husky from just waking up.
"Hiya, Pads." Remus croaked back, smiling softly.
"You feeling okay?"
Remus nodded, watching Sirius as the other boy sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes and pulling the blanket closer around his shoulders.
"There's...there's probably enough room if you want to squeeze in with me." Remus said quietly.
Sirius blinked at him. "You sure?"
Remus nodded quickly, and shifted to the side a little before holding the covers aloft to allow Sirius to climb in beside him.
The other boy did so, eagerly, rejecting the blanket and wriggling in beside Remus who felt his breath hitch as Sirius' side brushed against his.
It must have been early morning as the sun hadn't completely risen yet and there was no sound of Madam Pomfrey bustling around the Hospital Wing yet so Remus closed his eyes again.
"Go back to sleep, Padfoot." He said softly.
Sirius didn't reply, and Remus turned his head to the side to look at Sirius. He had his head resting against the pillow, but his face was turned to look at Remus, watching him carefully.
The two of them lay there for a second just looking at each other, and Remus was sure Sirius must be able to hear his heart beating it was so fast.
"Your scar looks better." Sirius said finally, and Remus just nodded slowly. The scar on Remus' face had indeed faded to a dull, deep red mark and no longer stuck out on his face with the huge scab that it had initially.
Sirius reached up a tentative hand to Remus' face, hesitating a little before Remus gave him a small nod, then allowing himself to trace the scar from under his eye down to his jaw like he had back in their dormitory only a couple of months ago. His fingers were cold and soft and gentle and Remus couldn't help but let a small shiver run through his body.
"Sorry." Sirius said quickly, redrawing his hand.
"No, it's okay." Remus replied hurriedly, and Sirius let his fingers rest gently against Remus' jaw.
"Do I still look cool?" Remus joked, but his voice was barely a whisper.
A smile lit up Sirius' features, and Remus tried to ignore the little flutter of butterflies in his stomach that he got when he got to see Sirius smile with his face up so close.
"You always look cool, Moony." Sirius grinned.
Remus gave a soft laugh. "Even cooler than you?" He mocked surprise.
