chapter title: "20th century boy" by t.rex

When Remus awoke the next morning, he was sure the events of last night must have been a dream until he saw Sirius Black lying in his bed beside him, his curls spread across the pillows like spilled ink as his chest rose and fell softly.

The night before, the two of them had simply stayed up listening to records on Remus' bed as Remus repainted Sirius' chipped nails. The conversation had been light and filled with soft kisses before they had eventually fallen asleep on top of Remus' covers.

Now, Remus used the precious moments in the early hour of the morning to marvel at Sirius looking so peaceful as he lay beside him. He felt a little guilty for leaving the party last night without saying goodnight to everyone. Especially Henry who he probably wouldn't see until they were next in Hogsmeade. But honestly, how could he be thinking of Henry now with Sirius beside him like this? It suddenly came to his attention that James would be up soon and he would probably have a lot of questions if he saw that Sirius' bed was still empty. Luckily Remus had pulled the curtains to his four poster the night before so it was unlikely that anyone had seen Sirius and him in Remus' bed. All the same, he should probably wake Sirius so as not to raise any suspicion. He doubted the older boy would want to answer any of James' questions about whatever this was between them.

Remus cast a quick silencing charm around his bed before he gently shook Sirius awake, pushing the desire to kiss him away just in case Sirius had changed his mind by the time he awoke.

Sirius groaned as Remus shook him, bringing a hand up to his face as his eyes fluttered open, gazing up at Remus. He lay there for a second, blinking before a soft smile spread across his features.

"Morning, Moony."

Remus smiled back. "Hi." He said, leaning his weight on one arm as he watched Sirius awake properly. And then suddenly Sirius was kissing him again, and that fluttery feeling was in his stomach all over again as Sirius pressed him into the mattress, hovering over him gently as he kissed him.

"Sirius!" Remus let out an undignified sound as Sirius started softly kissing down his jaw, Remus fingers laced tightly through his hair, letting out a small groan as Sirius smiled against his skin, gently kissing the tips of Remus' scars that he could reach that curled out from under his night shirt.

"Sirius!" Remus said more urgently. "You have to get up. James will be awake soon."

Sirius hesitated for a second before moving back up to his lips, kissing him gently. "So?"

Remus raised his eyebrows.

"Alright, I'm going, I'm going."

Remus found it very difficult to concentrate on classes that day, even astronomy, which was one of his favourite lessons. All he could think of was Sirius and his lips and his smile and his hands in his hair... and then he would snap out of his reverie and realise that there was only ten minutes left of the lesson. Once fourth period was over, Remus made his usual trek down to the transfiguration classroom where he would inevitably meet up with the rest of the Marauders in McGonagall's class.

He had barely got down one flight of stairs, however, when someone grabbed him from behind, a firm grip around his arm. Remus swivelled, immediately ready to defend himself from his attacker before he recognised that head of inky black curls just as he was tugged into a broom closet off from the corridor he had been walking down just a second ago, before Sirius slammed the door shut behind them. Remus barely had time to think before Sirius' lips were on his again, pressing him up against the wall in the tiny space, hands roughly grabbing his hips and kissing him, desperately.

"Pads, what are you doing?" He muttered softly.

"Missed you." Sirius said in response and Remus groaned as he let Sirius take control, lacing his fingers through those blissfully soft curls again, cold against his fingers. The darkness enveloped them and Remus only prayed that Sirius had charmed the door shut behind them as he felt a hand creep up under the hem of his school shirt, tracing the patterns of his scars on his skin as he gasped.

Remus quickly took back control as he turned him and Sirius around so that now he was pressing Sirius against the cool stone wall, leaning his head down to kiss Sirius' mouth and bending his legs a little so that he could match Sirius' height.

James was furious with them later on when they had failed to make it to transfiguration, demanding to know what mischief they had been pulling without him and Peter. Sirius had only smirked, leaving Remus to come up with some lame excuse.

That night, Remus lay awake in bed, waiting for the sounds of James and Peter's breathing to slow as they fell asleep, before creeping over, silently, to Sirius bed and shutting the curtains behind them.

The next few weeks went on similarly to this with the two boys sneaking off to find empty classrooms and broom-closets to make out in, before one of them would creep into the other's bed late at night, being sure that they ended up in their own beds by the time James and Peter awoke the next morning. Remus had to admit that he did feel a little guilty that they were keeping something as big as this from the other half of their group, but all that guilt was discarded when he found the softness of Sirius' lips pressed against his own late at night.

It was the night before James' birthday as Remus and Sirius lay awake in Remus' bed, Sirius' head tucked under Remus' chin as his hair curled loosely over Remus' shoulder.

"Jamie's gonna love us tomorrow." Sirius said softly, the breath from his lips warm on Remus skin as he spoke.

Remus hummed in response. They had planned to take the party down to the quidditch pitch for James' birthday party. Risky business but Remus, Sirius and Peter had been practising their protection charms so that no one should be able to see or hear them if they were looking out onto the quidditch pitch from the castle that night. James was sure to love it though, so it had to be worth it.

Remus moved his hand so that he could lace his fingers through Sirius' hair, gently caressing the dark curls as Sirius closed his eyes. Remus didn't think he had ever seen Sirius so peaceful or still for so long. Could Sirius really like him? Or could this all just be some experiment for him? Remus didn't like to ponder over the thought of what Sirius and he were to each other, and so didn't push him to answer any questions he might have. For now this was enough. For now this was all Remus could ever ask for.

However, it had occurred to Remus that he might have to ask Lily if she wanted to hang out this weekend. He needed some advice. After all, as much as he wanted to be content with whatever it was Sirius and him had right now, he had no idea how long it would be before Sirius found someone else to occupy himself with and he didn't want to know if he could take that. He wasn't sure if he could take Sirius Black breaking his heart.
