Talent Showcase - Angst - L.L.

Lately you had been feeling alone and invisible. I mean, sure you were the top student in all your classes, but you felt that was only because you were older than the other students. They were all 16 and 17 while you were 20. You hated how much older you were than everyone. You hated yourself. So to cope with those insecurities and feelings, you wrote music.

Your main talent was being able to manipulate your vocal chords in anyway you chose. That talent helped a bunch when you wanted to perform your music. Especially if you had a certain voice in mind.

When the schools announced a talent showcase to help with the merging of the schools, you thought it was the perfect opportunity to make an impression. To no longer be just 'the older kid'. To actually possibly make some friends. Of course you chose a song you had wrote previously when the Nevers were having a party and you came with the one person you considered slightly to be your friend,
but he left early on.

The day of the showcase had come around and the first few people had already performed. Mostly being Evers. Lady Lesso and Professor Dovey were the judges and you really wanted to make Lesso proud. Despite all the years losing, you were still proud to be a never.

When they called your name to come up on stage, you could see the look of shock written on Lesso's face. You were a very quiet and reserved 'kid' in all your classes. You carefully walked on stage and up to the mic with your guitar strapped on your shoulder.

"Before I start, I wanna say that I wrote this song based off of personal feelings and experiences. It does say a name, but it's not mine for certain... purposes." You say with a fake smile.

"I am hanging in the bathroom at the biggest party of the fall,
I could stay right here or disappear and nobody'd even notice at all." You open your eyes and see that Lesso's face hasn't changed but Dovey's has dropped slightly.

"I'm a creeper in a bathroom 'cause my buddy kinda left me alone,
But i'd rather fake pee than stand awkwardly,
Or pretend to check a text on my phone." You look up again and see that some of the Evers are looking at you sympathetically.

"Everything felt fine,
When I was half of a pair.
And through no fault of mine,
There's no other half there.
Now i'm just...
Michael in the bathroom,
Michael in the bathroom at a party." You look towards the Nevers and see their faces change at realizing what you're talking about.

"Forget how long it's been,
I'm just Michael in the bathroom,
Michael in the bathroom at a party.

No you can't come in.
I'm waiting it out 'til it's time to leave,
And picking at grout as I softly grieve.
I'm just Michael who you don't know,
Michael flying solo,
Michael in the bathroom by himself.
All by himself." You sing and you see Lesso's face has only softened ever so slightly. You decide to skip through some parts.

"As I choke back the tears.
I'll wait as long as I need,
'Til my face is dry,
Or i'll just blame it on weed,
Or something in my eye,
I'm just Michael who you don't know,
Michael flyin' solo,
Michael in the bathroom by himself." You feel yourself tearing up but you blink back the tears.

"Knock, knock, knock, knock,
They're gonna start to shout soon.
Knock, knock, knock, knock,
Ah, hell yeah, i'll be out soon.
Knock, knock, knock, knock,
It sucks he left me here alone.
Knock, knock, knock, knock,
Here in this teenage battle-zone." You feel yourself getting more emotional so you raise your voice a little.

"Clang, clang, clang, clang,
I feel the pressure blowing up.
Bang, bang, bang, bang,
My big mistake was showing up.
Splash, splash, splash, splash,
I throw some water in my face.
And I am in a better place,
I go to open up the door,
But I can't hear knocking anymore." You decide to skip over a couple more parts as you see Dovey tearing up.

"Is there a sadder sight than, mhm,
Michael in the bathroom at a party,
This is a heinous night,
I wish I stayed at home instead,
Watching cable porn,
Or wish I offed myself instead,
Wish I was never born." You look up slightly to see Lesso with a shocked and confused face.

"I'm just Michael who's a loner,
So he must be a stoner,
Rides a PT cruiser,
God, he's such a loser,
Michael flying solo,
Who you think that you know?
Michael in the bathroom by himself..." You finish off and then look back at everyone who was watching.

A lot of the Evers are crying and even some of the Nevers are too. What surprises you the most is even Lesso has tears in her eyes. You quickly take a deep breath and collect yourself, not letting any of your tears fall.

"I would like to see you in my office after this Y/N." Lesso says and you get nervous. Are you in trouble for this? You just nod and then walk back offstage to listen to who won.

You ended up winning and then made your way to Lesso's office. You were scared. Were you gonna get punished for what you sang? I mean sure it wasn't very nice or happy, but isn't that what Nevers like? Non-nice and not happy things?

You arrive at her door quicker than you think. You raise your hand to knock but before you're able to, the door opens and you're quickly pulled into the office and into a hug. A hug? The only person here is Lesso. Is Lesso hugging you?

"L-lady Lesso..?" You ask nervously.

"Don't ever think that way again..." She says with a soft break in her voice and you're even more confused.

"W-what way...?" You ask.

"Like you should never have been born. Quite frankly, i'm glad you were born." She says and then pulls back so you can look at her.

You're about to ask why but she cuts you off with a passionate kiss which you return with the same amount of passion. When she pulls away she puts her forehead on yours.

"I-i'm sorry Leo..." You say, trying out a little nickname to which she gives a smile.

"It's okay... Just come to me next time darling..." She says and then hugs you again.

After that day the both of you started dating and of course you went to her anytime you felt worthless or something similar. Or anytime one of the students did something to you.

~A/N - Hi! I am currently working on the part two of the Lesso angst story but writers block is kicking my ass! I thought of this one when I was listening to music. That's kinda the only reason I was able to write it! I'm sorry and it should be out soon! Oh and to make the titles a little shorter, I decided to just put the initials of the person.
