her eyes were still sore and tired when she woke up, the aftermath of crying was painfully evident to her.

flashes of the night before were cruising through her mind like the lightning that rattled her, a sudden sense of realization caught up on her.

mike wheeler carried her to his room and comforted her.

she instantly sat up straight in his bed, her eyes falling on the free spot next to her to notice that it was untouched.

relief washed through her like she never felt it before, an audible sigh left her lips as she noticed that she at least spared the humiliation of waking up next to him after what happened the night before.

she started gliding her eyes over the room to find a quilt over the couch on the other side of the room, signaling that he spent his night there.

her first thought was 'thank god he wasn't in the room anymore' and her immediate thought after that was a plain 'shit.'

her stomach twisted together, she slept on his bed while he slept on the couch all because she still didn't know how to handle thunderstorms.

dread filled her entire being when she realized that eventually, she'll need to get out of this room and that eventually, she'll need to face mike again after all of this.

will she ever be able to look him in the eyes anymore without wanting to die of embarrassment?

another sigh left her lips, she raked her fingers through her hair to comb some of the mess, contemplating whether she should hide in here for a little longer or if she should face him headfirst.

i have ruined this chemistry vacation for us.

actually, she's been making a fool of herself in front of him for the longest time but this was truly the cherry on top. she can't even blame him if he dislikes her or thinks that she's weird all around — no matter how professional he is, she strongly doubts that this trip did their "chemistry" any good.

she reluctantly got out of bed, her stomach twisting further when she started walking towards the door. her hand hovered over the handle for a moment before she found some courage within her to grasp it and walk out.

she held her breath as she started walking down the hallway, all the way down the stairs to brace herself for whatever was to come. once she reached the end of the stairs, she heard the distant noise of water rippling, making it clear that he was in the pool.

she felt like she was going to throw up again.

her eyes squeezed together tightly, her hands curled into loose fists before she started to walk towards his direction even though her mind was screaming at her to run away, change her identity and hide in an island somewhere forever.

fiji sounds nice — maybe even bora bora.

the closer she got to him, the more she could make out of him. his ivory back was turned towards her as he sat on the edge of the pool, when she took another step, she even started seeing the water droplets tracing his back.

she absentmindedly clutched on her heart, her hands were slightly trembling when she stood right behind him. with closed eyes she shook her head to herself, gathering all bravery she had in herself. "i'm sorry," she meekly said.

meekly because all the bravery she could find would only give her that much.

he titled his head in her direction once he heard her voice and when they gazes locked, she was sure that she would throw up.
