For six months, Tanjiro had repeatedly trained what Urokodaki had trained him. But when he tried to slice the boulder, he failed every time. His hand was full of bruises and he let a frustration scream.
'For six months, for six months I've trained. But I still can't slice the boulder! Am I...no good? Is Nezuko going to die without ever waking up? I'm losing hope! Nii-san had hopes on me and I just can't!' He then smashed his head on the boulder.
"KEEP WORKING, TANJIRO!! YOU CAN DO IT!" He then smashed his head once again.
"Silence!"
Tanjiro was surprised when he heard the voice. He then looked up at the boulder and saw a boy. The boy was wearing a green, patterned with a geometric hexagon design of yellow and a darker green, tied off at the waist with a piece of black fabric, below which he sported a pair of pants and over which a plain white. His peach-hair color was not too long as it was reaching his shoulder and he was wearing a fox-mask that hid his face. He was likely the same age as Tanjiro.
"A man shouldn't whine. It's unseemly" The boy said, while he's sitting at the top of the boulder.
'When did he show up? There's no scent. A fox mask?' Tanjiro thought as he stared at the boy. Didn't speak anything.
"No matter how you suffer, bear it in silence... if you're a man. If you call yourself a man." The boy jumps at Tanjiro and swings his wooden sword at him.
Even when Tanjiro managed to thwart the attack with his sword, he still got a hard kick in the face and sent him flying back a few inches from his original spot.
"Slow. Weak. Immature. That's not what you call a man."
"What are you doing?!" Tanjiro asked the boy.
"I'd like to know what you think you're doing." The boy said.
"What do you mean? I'm training" Tanjiro said in confusion.
"How long do you plan to keep your butt on the ground without even taking a stance?" With that Tanjiro got up and prepared for his position.
"Come on. Come at me." The boy said as he raised his hand and gave Tanjiro a sign.
"But you have a wooden sword, and I have a real sword" Tanjiro said in worry for the boy. With that sentence, it only made the boy laugh at him and Tanjiro stared at him in confusion.
"Well, well! Thank you for worrying about me. So, you think you can hurt me?" The boy then charges at Tanjiro and Tanjiro blocks the attack.
"Well, you have absolutely nothing to worry about! I'm more powerful than you..because I'VE SLICED THAT BOULDER" The boy said as he continued his attack. Tanjiro now lay in the ground painfully.
"You've learned nothing! You haven't mastered a single thing! Certainly not the breathing technique Urokodaki taught you... Total Concentration Breathing." The boy said, making Tanjiro surprised.
'He knows Urokodaki? and the breathing technique, too?' Tanjiro thought as he now sat at the ground staring at the boy.
"All you did was memorize it as fact. Your body has no clue what it needs to do." Sabito said as he pointed at Tanjiro's body with his wooden sword. Tanjiro then got up.
"What the hell were you doing for a whole year and a half?" Sabito swung his sword to Tanjiro and Tanjiro blocked the attack.
"Hammer it into your flesh" Sabito said before fighting with Tanjiro. In the end, Sabito won and left unconscious Tanjiro to Makomo.
