Lan Xichen shot upright in bed.

“Wanyin!!”

His voice echoed through the quiet room as he gasped for breath. His eyes darted around, taking in the familiar surroundings.

Carp Tower.

Before he could gather his thoughts, a healer hurried inside.

“Sect Leader Lan, you’re awake,” the healer said with visible relief.

Lan Xichen frowned. “What do you mean?”

“You’ve been unconscious for almost two days. When the Chief Cultivator investigated, he found evidence that Sect Leader Jiang poisoned you.”
Lan Xichen’s eyes widened.

“Wait… what?”

“The Chief Cultivator found poison in Sect Leader Jiang’s room.”

For a moment, Lan Xichen froze.

Then realization struck him like lightning.

Lan Wangji wasn’t here.

Which meant Jin Guangyao had taken the opportunity.

“Where is Wanyin right now?” he demanded urgently.

The healer hesitated. “For now… the cultivators have decided he should be beheaded—”

Before the healer could finish speaking, Lan Xichen had already leapt out of bed. Forgetting his usual composure and rules, he grabbed his robe and rushed toward the main hall.

Two days earlier, the cultivation world had already decided Jiang Wanyin’s death.

Jiang Cheng had been confined to his room the entire day.

Suddenly the door burst open.

Several Jin disciples stormed inside and began rummaging through everything without explanation.

Jiang Cheng frowned in confusion.

“What are you doing?”

A moment later, one of them pulled something from his drawer.

A small vial.

“Poison!” the disciple shouted. “Sect Leader Lan was poisoned yesterday. Sect Leader Jiang, you are the culprit!”

Jiang Cheng’s eyes widened slightly.

Then he chuckled coldly.

Of course.

Lan Wangji wasn’t here.

They had chosen the perfect moment to frame him.
Even if he said he didn’t do it… Lan Xichen would never believe him.

The next day arrived.

The cultivation world had already reached a decision.

Jiang Cheng was dragged to the front of Carp Tower, where countless cultivators had gathered to witness the execution.

His sister, Jiang Yanli, was there.

So were his brother-in-law and little nephew.

A Jin elder stepped forward and unrolled a scroll.
“Jiang Cheng, courtesy name Wanyin, Sect Leader of the Jiang Clan. You are accused of poisoning Zewu-jun. The cultivation world has sentenced you to death.”

As the announcement ended, Jin Guangyao crouched beside him and whispered so quietly no one else could hear.

“Er-ge… is only mine.”

He smiled gently, though his eyes were cold.

Jiang Cheng’s eyes widened in fury.

“You—”
