“Ge, are you busy tomorrow?” Haoxuan asked his older brother, Sean.
“Hm, I don’t know if I have a schedule. Why are you asking?”
“It’s just that… I know it sounds funny, but I don’t feel good. As if something bad might happen tomorrow. Ge, can we visit Grandma tomorrow?”
“Huh?” Now Sean was worried about his didi.
When suddenly—
“Grrrrr!!!” His er-di screamed in annoyance. “This Zewu-jun is quite an idiot! He always listens to that snake of a sworn brother. He even killed his lover because of his sworn brother’s words. He deserves it that his brother doesn’t trust him. He deserves that his younger brother and nephew defected from his so-called righteous clan. He calls himself righteous, yet he doesn’t even know how to investigate what really happened. He just directly kills innocent people. In fact, he’s the reason why his dage died, because he believed that snake’s lies.”
His er-di spoke with clear annoyance.
“Oi, shut up. You’ve already read that a hundred times. And why did you bring that book with you? If Grandma knows about it, she will punish you,” Haoxuan said.
Richard just pouted. “No. Grandma loves me more. She would never punish me. And so what if I read it many times? I like this book… and I hate it.” He huffed and went back to reading.
“Alright, if you ever transmigrate into that book, you can do whatever you want to that Zewu-jun and that snake you keep talking about.” Haoxuan laughed out loud.
“Shut up.”
“That’s enough already. Come on, it’s time to eat,” Sean said with a smile.
Soon, they were both at the dining table.
“Ge, so can we visit Grandma in China tomorrow?”
“Okay, okay. I’ll call my assistant and manager tomorrow to clear my schedule for one week.”
“Really?” Richard and Haoxuan asked excitedly.
“Hm. Now eat and pack your things.”
The two boys happily nodded.
It had been six years since they last saw their grandmother. They usually just talked through calls and video calls. Their Uncle Dao visited them twice a year, and their Jili-gege visited almost every month. Still, they really missed their grandmother.
They remembered the time when their uncle and grandmother trained them in martial arts and swordsmanship. Only Sean managed to master all six martial arts techniques. Their grandmother also helped them meditate, especially the older one who could never sit still.
Now, everything they had learned from their uncle and grandmother was used in their journey as assassins.
Just as Sean promised, they flew back to China.
However, while they were on the plane, they saw a news report.
“Um, excuse me. That news… is that new?” Sean asked the flight attendant.
“Oh, yes, sir. She’s the richest businesswoman in all of Asia—the owner of Celestial Sanren’s business empire. I heard she was kidnapped about twelve hours ago and suddenly vanished into thin air. Everyone is looking for her. But the strange thing is that the kidnappers were caught on CCTV entering some kind of portal or something like that. It’s quite scary that something like that could exist in the modern world. Some people think they were aliens. But those people were wearing black hanfu, like they were from ancient times.”
The brothers heard this and became extremely worried. They didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at such a statement—but at the same time, they were terrified.
Their grandmother had been kidnapped.
“Gege…” his two younger brothers murmured softly, trying their best not to cry.
“It’s alright. I’m sure Uncle Daoren is trying his best to find Grandma,” Sean said, trying to remain calm.
When they landed at Shanghai Airport, Sean, Haoxuan, and Richard went straight to their uncle’s house.
But they were horrified when they saw a lot of blood inside their uncle’s mansion.
They immediately searched every corner of the mansion for their uncle.
Finally, they found him in the basement. He was badly wounded and bleeding heavily, barely breathing.
“Uncle!” the brothers cried as they rushed to him and helped him sit against the wall.
“W-what are you doing here?” he asked breathlessly.
The three of them were panicking and began crying.
“Please don’t speak anymore, Uncle. We’ll take you to the hospital,” Sean said.
But their uncle stopped them.
“No. I’m alright. You need to leave… or they will come again.”
The three of them shook their heads and refused.
“Listen to me, kids… You need to leave and look for Mother,” he said, trying his best to stay composed.
“W-what do you mean, Uncle? Where’s Grandma?” Haoxuan asked.
Daoren chuckled weakly and coughed up blood.
“Uncle!”
“Listen… When there is a sea of Yin resentment, there is also a sea of pure Yang energy. You will find her there.”
The three of them were confused. They didn’t understand.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps.
Daoren forced himself to move. With great difficulty, he walked toward another door. When he opened it, the three boys were pushed inside.
“Now run and don’t look back. Find Grandma. If I survive, I will come find you. Hurry… Mother can answer your questions.”
He closed the door, locked it, and used an illusion so that no one could see the portal.
The three boys banged on the door, calling for their uncle. But it was as if no one could hear them.
Sean finally decided to follow his uncle’s instructions. He grabbed his two brothers and ran through the dark passage.
“Brother… is it alright that we left Uncle?” Richard asked while crying as they ran.
“He said there’s a possibility that Grandma is still alive and safe. So we need to find her.”
They continued running.
They ran for almost forty-two minutes, moving like ninjas. Finally, they saw a blinding light ahead. Maybe it was the exit.
But when they reached it, it felt as if something suddenly pushed them. They began falling—and then everything went black.
They lost consciousness.
Somewhere in a magnificent place that looked like the heavens…
A man wearing an extravagant hanfu, like a robe meant only for the Heavenly Emperor, stood above the clouds. He looked down and smiled before calling his assistant.
“Send someone. I want them to remain safe no matter what until they reach what they are seeking. Also send someone to help my son… and bring him here.”
