Chapter 6: Uneasy Feels

Sophia's POV

"Yeah after that Chem test today, I'll probably be grounded for a month," I laughed half-jokingly.

I looked up from my tray and saw Chase walking our way with Ethan trailing behind.

"Hey guys. What's up?" he spoke as he sat down next to Hailey.

"Where the hell have you been? Lunch is almost over," she asked in an over protective girlfriend-like way.

"Oh yeah, I was helping my teacher clean up after our biology lab today." he answered. He sounded slightly suspicious.

Just then I felt a kiss on the top of my head. It was Ethan. He seemed different so hopefully he wouldn't bring up anything.

"Yeah how about you? Where have you been?" I asked as he sat down.

"I was in the library making up, umm, an English test." His cheeks started turning pink.

"What's wrong? You think you did bad or something?"

"Yeah."

His short answer made me wonder if that was really what he was up to. But then again he's never lied to me and if he did, he wouldn't use a test to cover it up.

I pushed my thoughts aside and brought up a different subject.

"I bet you did fine. Better than I did on my Chemistry test today. Ugh. That was awful."

We continued talking about school and about our crappy days until the end of lunch.

I walked back to Photography for the last 45 minutes of class. I had a lot more on my mind now than I did before. Is Ethan lying to me? What's wrong with Chase? Is Andrew suspicious? What did Ethan want to talk about earlier? Why didn't he bring it up during lunch? These, plus a million other questions, filled my uneasy mind.

My thoughts were interrupted by my phone buzzing in my pocket. A text from Ethan... I opened the notification and read it.

Ethan: Hey can we hang out after school today? We hardly see each other anymore so I was thinking we could grab coffee and talk :)

I began typing and once I hit "Send", I wanted to punch myself in the face.

Me: Sorry I can't today :( I'm hanging out with Hailey to work on our Chemistry project. Maybe some other time?

Why did I lie to him? I had no reason to. I guess I was just paranoid that if he knew I would be with Andrew, he would freak out and break up with me or something.

I waited and waited for him to respond. I then felt another buzz. I quickly unlocked my phone to see that it wasn't a text from him. It was from Andrew.

Drew: Hey do you mind if Madison comes over for a few? She said she needed help with her Geo hw so I figured you and I could help her :)

Ugh... What have I gotten myself into now...

Me: Sure! I'd love to help :)

Drew: Thanks Soph :) you're the best!

I smiled, put my phone back in my pocket, and waited for the bell to ring.

I strolled over to my locker to grab my things to leave for the day. One more block and I would be free of this hell hole. The only problem was that I had next block with Ethan. At least I love History so much to the point that maybe I could ignore him. I made my way down the hall and I saw him quickly look at me then enter the room. Either he's suspicious of me or he's just really hurt. I waltzed into the classroom and took my seat right next to his.

"Hey," I said smiling, "did you hear any news about your test?"

He looked at me with disappointment in his eyes before answering.

"Not yet." he turned away and began working on his journal.

"Umm okay then..." I whispered under my breath.

I looked up at the board and read the journal prompt. I tried to focus on it, but I felt like Ethan was looking at me from his peripheral vision. I brushed it off and kept writing.

I felt him looking at me again and I was getting annoyed.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked sternly, "You've been acting weird all day."

"Nothing. You haven't been acting completely normal yourself," he spat back with slight anger in is eyes.

"Whatever. At least I have a good reason."

"And who says I don't?"

"Well you won't tell me so I'm just assuming you don't."

He was about to say something, but he held back and turned back to his work.

The rest of class we sat there in complete silence. Usually I was the eager beaver student always answering the teacher's questions, but not today.

The bell finally rang dismissing us for the day. I was the first one out of the classroom because I sure as hell did not feel like dealing with Ethan again. I sped out to the parking lot and waited by Andrew's car. I leaned against the driver's side so no one would see me when they came out of the doors. I pulled out my phone to text my mom where I would be the rest of the afternoon.

Me: Hey just wanted to let you know I'm going over to Andrew's house after school for most of the night. He'll prob bring me home so no need to pick me up. Also if Ethan calls tell him I'm at Hailey's. Long story. Love you lots! <3

I hit send and was about to put my phone back in my pocket when I realized that my mom would not be the one receiving that text. Ethan would...
