This story is based on Ponniyin Selvan, a historical fiction novel by Indian author Kalki Krishnamurthy, published in the Kalki magazine in serialised form from 1950 to 1954 and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 &2, the film adaptations of the aforementioned novel, produced by Lyca Productions.
