At lunchtime, Rose's urgent call echoed across the cafeteria, beckoning me to join her at her table. As I made my way towards her, someone carelessly bumped into my hand, causing the tray of food to slip from my grasp and crash onto the floor. "Oh my God! Seriously?!" I exclaimed in disbelief. To my surprise, it was the same guy who had collided with me near the lockers earlier. Rose hurried over to my side, and the eyes of the entire cafeteria seemed to fixate on us. It was an utterly mortifying moment, one that only seemed to occur to me with such impeccable timing.
In no time, our teacher arrived on the scene, curious about the commotion. "What happened here?" she inquired, her tone laced with a hint of annoyance. Rose and I began talking simultaneously, both eager to explain the unfortunate mishap. "Quiet!" the teacher's sharp command resounded, causing a sudden jolt within me. "I don't care about the details! After school, you two will have ample time to clean up this mess. I will personally oversee the task," she declared firmly, her voice echoing across the cafeteria. Although I had a hundred retorts swirling in my mind, I thought it best to keep my words to myself, not wanting to further escalate the situation.
Rose, ever the protective friend, confronted the guy responsible for the accident. "Jimin, you idiot! What were you thinking?" she exclaimed, clearly irritated. With a sheepish expression, he replied, "I just wanted to secure a seat because Tae always takes mine." Realizing the need for amends, I suggested, "Perhaps an apology is in order?" Jimin nodded earnestly and apologized, "Sorry for running into you." Yet, no amount of regret could undo the damage done to my lost lunch, which now lay in a disarrayed state on the floor.
Genuinely remorseful, Jimin looked at the scattered food and said, "I truly didn't mean for this to happen. If you want, you can have my lunch instead." Though my stomach grumbled with hunger, I declined his offer, saying, "No, thank you." Even though I secretly longed to accept his kind gesture, I remembered the cereal bar tucked away in my locker and decided to save it for later. Taking a seat beside Rose, my thoughts wandered, briefly distracted by the unfolding events around me.
Curious about the commotion, the other boys joined our table. Eager to catch up, Rose filled them in on the incident, explaining how Jimin accidentally bumped into me, resulting in my lunch catastrophe. "Smooth move," Hoseok playfully patted Jimin's back, eliciting a light chuckle from the group.
By this point, Jimin and I had become acquainted, and Rose introduced us formally. "Jimin, this is Jennie. Jennie, meet Jimin," she said, gesturing between us. "Oh, we've already crossed paths," Jimin revealed with a smile, and I nodded in agreement. "Where did you two meet?" Rose inquired, her curiosity piqued. "It was near the lockers; he accidentally bumped into me," I blushed slightly, recalling the encounter. "Just a small mishap, really. I was rushing to class," Jimin explained, his expression reflecting a touch of embarrassment.
Rose couldn't resist teasing, and a mischievous grin spread across her face. "Oh, don't worry about it! Jimin here seems to have a knack for bumping into people," she chuckled. Yoongi, who held Rose around the waist, joined in the banter, and they exchanged playful glances. As they engaged in their own little affectionate moment, I couldn't help but wonder about the dynamics between them.
Amidst our conversation, a woman with an overly affected voice approached our table, exclaiming, "Rose, why is that girl sitting in my seat?" It was Mina, an individual who always seemed to radiate an air of pretentiousness. "Jennie is new here," Rose calmly explained. Mina's demeanour softened, and she said with an insincere smile, "Hmm, well, I suppose I can forgive you this time, Jennie. But don't let it happen again." I fought the urge to roll my eyes, feeling an instant dislike towards her. This was the first time I had encountered her, and already, I had an overwhelming urge to scratch her eyes out. "Rose, I'll sit with the girls for a while. Join us later; we need to discuss something regarding our group," Mina suggested. "Group?" I interjected, curious about Rose's involvement. "Alright," Rose agreed, bidding farewell to the boys as she made her way to the girls' table.
"Rose is part of a group?" I pondered, intrigued by this newfound information. Jungkook, overhearing my thoughts, voiced his opinion, "Be careful with Mina. She's not as nice as she pretends to be." His words held a hint of warning, making me question what lay beneath Mina's deceptive façade.
As I returned to my thoughts, my mind wandered back to the cereal bar I had stashed away in my locker. "Where are you? I'm hungry! Don't worry, nothing will happen to you. I'll just devour you," I mumbled to myself, determined to locate my hidden snack. My hand delved deeper into my bag, searching for the elusive treat. Ah, there it is! I unravelled the packaging, revealing the tantalizing cereal bar. "Come to mommy... hmm, this is delightful," I savoured each bite, momentarily engrossed in the flavours dancing on my tongue. Lost in my snack-induced bliss, I happened to catch Jungkook's gaze fixed upon a girl nearby. She walked past him, exchanging greetings, to which he responded with a dumbfounded smile and a wave. Oh, boy, it seems like you're going to need some assistance, I thought, observing the interaction unfold.
