People Tend to Forget This About Me

Fred was away from his twin brother, hiding in a broom closet and hugging his knees. He wasn't crying, but he was pretty close to it, and he hated it.

His entire body just felt... wrong. The body he had, it didn't feel like his body. Not yet, not now. Will it ever?

He sometimes felt like his family forgot about this part of him, which conflicted him. Fred was glad they didn't call him... that old name, but he wished they could understand what he was going through. It sometimes felt like his twin even forgot about it.

He didn't know what he was going to do about it all, and Fred didn't know who he could turn to so he could ask for help.

Professor Remus Lupin was looking at an old map in his office when he noticed something strange. Fred Weasley was alone, and he rarely was apart from George, so he decided to go and investigate.

He cleared the map and walked to the nearby broom closet the young Weasley was hiding in. He walked carefully and slowly opened the door when he arrived.

He peeked in, not expecting Fred to look so sad.

"Mr. Weasley?"

Fred's head shot up, his eyes watering. "Yes, Professor Lupin?"

Remus smiled softly and came in, shutting the door behind him. He sat next to Fred and pulled him into a side hug. "What's wrong?"

Fred sighed. "It's stupid."

"If it's making you hide in a broom closet alone, it's not stupid."

Fred chuckled a little. "I guess not."

"So, what's wrong?"

"It's just... there's something about me that I feel like the people who know about it forget it. Which, I guess it's fine, but there's always this time where the something is right in my face and laughs at me."

"And you wish there was someone there for you to talk about it with?"

Fred nodded. "No one in my family really understands it."

"I doubt that. I've met your parents and they're some of the most understanding people I know. Do they know what it is?"

Fred nodded. "They know."

"That's good. Have you talked to George about it?"

"He was the first one I told."

"Do you mind sharing what it is?"

Fred didn't respond right away, then he slowly nodded. "I'm-I'm trans," he stuttered out.

Remus smiled and nodded. "Pronouns?"

"He/him."

Remus nodded again and ruffled Fred's hair. "Do you want to know something about me?"

"What?"

"I go through some monthly pains. It's not like yours, but it isn't fun."

Fred slowly nodded. "So... you're trans?"

"No. I'm a wearwolf."

"Oh. OH."

Remus chuckled. "So, your family sometimes forgets you're trans?"

Fred nodded. "I don't care that they forget, but during my 'time of the month,' I get grumpy and snappy. I snapped at George earlier and it turned into this big thing. Lee took his side, so I went here."

"What was it about?"

"What we're going to have for lunch. We always have the same thing as the other cause we like the same foods. But, I wanted something else from George and it turned into a fight. Lee took George's side cause George wanted chicken wings and I wanted a sandwich."

Remus nodded. "James and I had an argument like that once after my transformation. He wanted me to try and help him ask out Lily and I wanted to read, so he held my chocolate hostage."

Fred chuckled. "That's funny."

Remus smiled and pulled out a small chocolate bar. "Here. It'll help."

Fred took it and unwrapped it. "Thanks."

"And I would talk to George about it if I were you. You shouldn't let it eat you up like this."

Fred smiled as he nodded weakly. "I'll go find him soon."

Remus nodded and ruffled Fred's hair again. "It was nice to talk to you."

Fred blushed then nodded. "Same goes. And don't worry, I won't tell."

"Thank you. I won't tell anyone about your secret either."

Fred grinned and stood up. He dusted himself off and opened the door. He paused before hugging Remus. "Thank you."

"Of course, Fred. I'm glad you trusted me enough to tell me what's wrong."

Fred eventually let go. "Thank you for listening. I'm going to find George."

"Good luck."

Fred nodded and ran off to find his twin. He eventually found him and Lee in their dorm room. He had to catch his breath, bending over and gripping his knees, before he opened his mouth to speak.

"Freddie?" George's voice startled him before he could say anything.

Fred looked up at George. "Heyyyy."

"Are you good?"

He nodded and sat next to George and Lee. "I'm good. Are you?"

"Yep. Sorry about earlier..."

"I should be the one who says sorry. I was the first one to snap."

George shrugged. "It's okay. Wanna help us plan a prank against Snape?"

"Always."
