As they are flying off in the Milano, Peter finds Rocket taking apart parts of the ship.
"Woh, woh, woh! Yoh, Ranger Rick! What are you doing? You can't take apart my ship without asking me! See, what is this?" Peter yelled.
"Don't touch that, it's a bomb." Rocket said continuing his work.
"A bomb?" Peter's eyes were out of his head.
"Yep." Mara said as she sat down next to Rocket.
"And you leave it lying around?" He asked her. She looked up at him.
"We were gonna put it in a box." Mara said.
"What's a box gonna do?" Peter asked. Rocket pulls out a box and takes out the wrapped present Peter's mother had given him before she had died.
"How about this one?" Rocket asked.
"No! Woh! Hey! Hey! Leave it alone!" Peter closed the the drawer.
"Why? What is it?" Rocket asked.
"Shut up." Peter said. Mara flicked Rocket. The raccoon jumped and looked at her.
"Stop." She mouthed.
"Hey." Rocket had pulled out of the ship. "What is that?" Peter asked.
"That's for if things get really hardcore." Rocket said unamused.
"Or if you wanna blow up moons." Mara smirked.
"No one's blowing up moons." Gamora spoke from across the room.
"You just wanna suck the joy out of everything." Rocket mumbled."So, listen, I'm gonna need your buyer's coordinates." Peter turned to Gamora.
"We're heading in the right direction, for now." Gamora picks up the orb.
"If we're gonna work together, you might want to try trusting me a little bit." Peter said.
"And how much do you trust me?" She asked. He takes the orb out of Gamora's hand.
"I'd trust you a lot more if you told me what this was. Because I'm guessing it's some kind of weapon." Peter suggested.
"I don't know what it is." Gamora informed. Peter places the orb on the table and Drax picks it up.
"If it's a weapon, we should use it against Ronan." Drax said. Mara stood up and walked to the table.
"Put it down, you fool! You'll destroy us all." Gamora yelled.
"Or just you, murderess!" Drax argued.
"I let you live once, princess!" Gamora yelled.
"I am not a princess!" Drax said.
"Hey! Nobody is killing anybody on my ship! We're stuck together until we get the money." Peter said. Drax throws the orb to Peter.
"I have no interest in money." Drax walks off.
"Great. That means more money for the three of us." Peter smiled. Groot makes a noise indicating he counts too. "For the four of us. Partners."
"We have an agreement, but I would never be partners with the likes of you. I'll tell the buyer we're on our way. And Quill, your ship is filthy." Gamora said as she turns and walks up the stairs. Peter watched her. Mara moved around the room. Peter had his Walkman on a chair. She smiled and picked it up.
"Oh, she has no idea. If I had a black light, the place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting." Peter laughed
"You got issues, Quill."Rocket said.Everyone was up in the cockpit of the ship. Peter saw that Mara wasn't up with them, so he walked down the stairs. He saw her sitting at the table with his head phones on. He walked up to her and sat in front of her. She looked up and was startled by Peter sitting there.
"Sorry. I..." she quickly took the head phones off. Peter smiled.
"It's fine." He said.
"I... my dad had one of these. He would bring it everywhere. Said it was my moms." Mara smiled as she explained.
"That one was my mom's. She gave it to me." Peter informed.
"You're from Terra right?" Mara asked. Peter nodded. "I am too." She smiled. They were quite for a moment.
"What's your favorite song?" Peter asked.
"My dad would always play lost that love and feeling all the time."
"My mom played Brandy." They both smiled. Peter fitted with the Walkman. "You were pretty cool back at the prison. Even if it cost me units."
"Sorry about that. Rocket always comes up with these crazy things. And thanks you were pretty badass out there, ya know, swinging that prosthetic leg around." Mara laughed. Peter couldn't help but laugh.Rocket sat on the steps watching them. He smiled. He knew Mara since she was 16. She grew up a lot since then. He felt like he was losing her, especially with Peter being a human. Rocket thought Mara might leave to go be with one of her kind. It truly scared him.
"So how the hell did a girl, a raccoon, and a tree get together?" Peter asked. Mara looked down smiling.
"I saved them from a cellmate. Said I had guts and they let me break out with them." Mara said simply. Peter nodded. Mara looked at his jacket.
She knew what it was like to be abducted, especially by another life form you never knew existed.
