Alex.
By the time Monday came around, Alex's mind was well a truly frazzled. Scott, Stiles, and Lydia had been to the hospital to examine the two bodies brought in during the early hours of Saturday morning. So far, other than identifying who they were, no one seemed to be able to figure out the connection between them. And as Alex walked down the halls on Monday morning, she couldn't help but scan the crowds of students and wonder who was next. She walked into Miss Blake's classroom. It took pretty much all the energy she had left to force a polite smile onto her face.
"Morning, Jennifer." Alex said, closing the door behind her.
"Alex, hi." Jennifer said.
Alex couldn't help but feel like Jennifer was a little nervous around her. Like she knew something that Alex wasn't going to like.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked.
"Yes, fine." Jennifer nodded. "I just.. I'm sorry, I'm a little rattled about the two students."
Every instinct in Alex's body was screaming that Jennifer was lying. She didn't know what it was about this woman, but Alex didn't trust her. A little voice in the back of her head reminded her that she didn't trust anyone, but she ignored it. Something was definitely off about Jennifer.
"Yeah, I heard about that." Alex sighed. "My mom was there when they were taken in."
"Well, lets just hope that no one else is hurt." Jennifer said, brushing down her dress with her hands.
Alex nodded in agreement. "I hope so."
"I heard you met Derek this weekend." Jennifer said, pulling out a pile of textbooks.
"Uh, yeah. I heard you're dating him?" Alex said, unsure where this conversation was going.
"Sort of." Jennifer shrugged. "It's still early days."
"Well, I'll be honest, Jennifer, I think you could do better." Alex chuckled.
"He's a little intimidating, but he's actually quite sweet when you get to know him." Jennifer smiled.
"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" Alex raised a brow.
"Oh, no, I'm just saying. He told me you two didn't really see eye to eye." Jennifer said cautiously.
"That's one way of putting it." Alex mumbled. She wouldn't admit out loud that she already despised the man, and she didn't even really know him. Nor did she want to. Jennifer was welcome to him. Alex thought he was an arrogant asshole.
She took her purse off her shoulder and placed it on the floor beside Jennifer's desk. The bell rang, signalling the start of the lesson, and Alex waited patiently at the front of the class as the students filed into the room. She'd already met these students, so there was no curious stares this time. However, Alex was mildly annoyed to find the same teenager who'd eyed her up and down on the Friday was here too. But so were Scott, Stiles, and Lydia, so Alex was able to ignore him.
"Alright everyone, settle down." Jennifer said, catching everyone's attention. "Miss McCall, could you hand these textbooks out while I write up today's lesson."
Alex nodded and picked up the pile of books from the desk. She distributed them around the class, placing one on each desk. When she reached Scott, Stiles, and Lydia, Alex glanced over her shoulder before leaning closer to Scott.
"Come and find me at lunch." Alex whispered.
Scott nodded as Alex placed a textbook in front of him. Once the books were all handed out, she walked up to the front of the classroom again, waiting for her next job. Jennifer started writing on the blackboard at the front of the classroom, while the students all started opening the textbooks. Alex was about to ask Jennifer what she wanted Alex to do next, when the flirty, cocky teenager in the front row raised his hand.
