In some other life, perhaps. This man who stood before Umekiri, with his mesmerizing dark eyes and beautiful face, would be hard to forget. But still, she is certain that she had never met him before. Not in this lifetime.

He glanced down at her hands, then the cup that had held her tea, now forgotten on the concrete. His smile faltered and dipped into a frown. Her stupid heart lurched at its absence. "My sincere apologies." The man took his gloves off and handed them to her. "I knocked your tea from your hands, and it looks like it got on your gloves."

She finally found her senses and shook her head. "Its quite all right. I should have been paying more attention where I was walking." Pink bloomed on her cheeks and she knew it wasn't from the cold.

"Nonsense. Here, please." He held the gloves closer to her, that smile curving his lips again.

She smiled back as she took the gloves, still warm. When their hands touched, she felt an invigorating spark between them and almost dropped his gloves. She cleared her throat and put them on, her hands becoming instantly warm. "Won't you get cold?"

His gaze dropped to her lips for a heartbeat before moving back up to her eyes. "Knowing that your hands will be warm will be good for me. And besides, I don't have far to go."

She felt her cheeks redden some more and glanced to the ground. "Well, thank you."

"The pleasure is all mine," he said in that smooth tone again. "Let me replace your tea as well."

"No, no. That's okay," she replied, though every part of her screamed that it didn't want to part from him. Not yet. "I'm Umekiri," she offered.

"Umekiri," he repeated. He seemed to taste her name on his tongue, saying it back slowly. Only then had she realized that they were still standing quite close to one another. She couldn't bring herself to take a step away. He bowed his head as he said, "My name is Suguru."

The snowflakes started to fall in greater number, silencing the world around them. It was still early, but people began emerging for their morning commutes. Her parents would be awake any moment now she thought. But still...

"So, Umekiri," Suguru said. There was something about the way that he said her name that made her want to close the distance between them right then and there. Blasphemous really. She had just met him. "Can I get you that cup of tea?"

She swallowed, the movement in her throat catching his eye. "Yes. Thank you."

"Weren't you heading in the other direction?" Umekiri asked Suguru as they turned the corner. He picked up the fallen cup before stepping over it and tossed it in the snow-covered waste bin they passed by.

"I was, but I can take this next left. I'm enjoying your company." He shoved his hands into his pockets and leaned a little closer. "If that is all right, of course."

Umekiri looked away from his allure. Those dark eyes could swallow her whole. She felt herself getting lightheaded at all the thoughts that raced through her mind. "Certainly." She gripped the cup tighter, letting the warmth consume her thoughts. But it wasn't warmth that she needed. She wanted to shove herself into a snowbank.

They walked a few paces in silence. Umekiri could feel Suguru's gaze warming her from the inside. When she turned to look at him, he didn't look away. She felt her face heat under his stare and asked, "What?"

"You have beautiful eyes," he said. At the end of his sentence, his own face was tinged a little pink. It made her heart skip a beat.

"Thank you." She smiled as her right hand touched a lock of white hair dangling at her chin. "Most people comment on my hair first."
