Birthday Panic

"Happy Birthday baby!" Zach threw his arms around me while I was packing for our small trip into the woods. It's something we did for everyone's birthdays, go to the clearing in the woods, make a fire, get drunk then go home. We have been doing it since we were seventeen and the tradition hasn't stopped.

"Thank you." I hummed as I smiled.

"You look great today." He said, still holding on to me. I wore a large black Dead Kennedys shirt that was tucked into some black jeans with a studded belt. My hair was down and I only wore eyeliner today out of pure laziness.

"Same to you." I moved myself so I was facing him. He wore his own bands merch which was also tucked into his black jeans.

"You wanna drive there and I drive back?" He asked.

"Sounds like a plan to me!"

We had always used the woods behind the church. It was far enough away from it though that no one would go back there. There was a clearing that we would have a bonfire in and blast music.

It was warm as I carried some blankets and a cooler filled with beer. Not the most traditional Italian drink but it was all we had and I sure as hell wasn't complaining. Not that I drink much anyway but since my Zach was driving I wasn't going to complain all that much. Zach was carrying a speaker and fire starters while our friends, Johnny, Andrew, Lily and Selena. They had brought more drinks and food along with them. Johnny also had brought a deck of cards for us to use when the night died down a bit.

"(Y/n) are you so excited?!" Lily ran up and threw her arm around me.

"I am!" I giggled at her enthusiasm.

"Good. It's your big day! A whole twenty years alive." Her smile was bright and her green eyes glowed as the setting sunlight flooded through the trees.

We made it to the clearing and there was still reminiscence of the last bonfire we had a little over a month ago for Selena's birthday. We set our things down on some logs that we now use as benches and ran around the forest looking for large branches for the fire.

After about ten minutes we had enough sticks so Zach took the starter pieces and set them on fire, while holding on I may add and threw them onto the teepee of wood. It immediately caught ablaze with large red/orange flames shooting into the sky. The roar of the fire was loud and it was extremely hot causing us to all back up with a laugh.

"I think all of my leg hair is gone!" Andrew blurted out with the toothiest grin I had ever seen.

"Na, it's still there. You wish though!" Zach crouched down in front of him to get a look at his legs.

"Yeah, you're gonna need a whole ass bomb to get rid of your hair." Lily giggled.

The music was loud as we drank. We had already eaten all of the food so we knew the night was dying down. I didn't drink all that much so me and Zach were the only sober ones left. We didn't mind though, it was always funny to watch your friends be dumb as shit.

"Wanna start packing up?" Zach whispered to me.

"Yeah, I'll call them an Uber when we get closer to cell service." I looked up at him though he still was staring at the dying fire. Zach was a tall man with shortish black curly hair and circle golden glasses. The fire was illuminating his face to the point it looked like he was glowing.

"I love you, darling." He smiled as he looked down at me. Holding me with his right arm.

"I love you too." I buried my face in his chest. Then there was a crash.

We all stopped. It was extremely loud considering we heard it over the music, which is now being rushed to turn off by Andrew. We didn't know what it was so we were quickly grabbing everything and starting to throw dirt onto the fire.

I was kicking the dirt when I saw it. Glowing red eyes from the shadows of the trees caused by the moonlight. I screamed when I saw it. I knew what it was, of course I did. I shouldn't even be as scared as I was but I know what it is and what it could do.

A demon. A real demon, not just a ghoul but a creature that could cause horrific damage just with a blink of an eye.

I ignored the fire and began to run. I grabbed Lily and Zach with both my hands hoping the rest would follow. The six of us ran through the forest, our hearts pounding and our vision tunneled. Then that's when I felt it.

Two claws grabbed my hips causing me to let go of my friends and be dragged back. I kept kicking and screaming, desperately trying to get out. I saw Zach's face of horror when I felt something pierce right through me. I looked down to see what looked like a thick needle right through my lower abdomen. I looked back at Zach who was standing there completely frozen. A slight dampness to his eyes. I felt tears in my eyes at the feeling of losing my life and seeing it flash through my eyes.

"That will teach you to not disrespect Satan again." The demon growled in my ear, then he ripped the spade from me causing my body to fall forward and the world turned black.
