As the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the Paris Opera House, Océane found herself standing before her vanity mirror, clad in a light green dress that complemented her eyes. Her fingers trembled slightly as she fastened the matching corset, trying to steady her nerves before the start of rehearsals. She took a deep breath, reminding herself of the letter she had received from Erik, the Phantom of the Opera, the night before.
"I will see you tomorrow at midnight," his words echoed in her mind.
Océane knew that tonight's encounter with Erik would be pivotal. She couldn't ignore the emotions stirring within her, nor could she disregard the sincerity in his plea for forgiveness. With resolve, she tucked the letter safely into her drawer and made her way downstairs.
As she descended the grand staircase, Océane was met by her friend Meg, who appeared to be in a state of excitement mixed with concern. "Océane, you won't believe what just happened!" Meg exclaimed, leading her towards the managers' office.
Anxiety gripped Océane's heart as she followed Meg. Upon entering the office, she saw Messieurs Firmin and André, the managers, with worried expressions etched on their faces. Carlotta and Piangi were also present, and it was evident that something had greatly disturbed them.
"Ah, Océane, there you are," Firmin said, trying to put on a reassuring smile. "Please, have a seat."
Océane took a chair, her mind racing with possibilities of what could have happened. Meg stood nearby, offering her silent support.
Firmin cleared his throat. "Last night, during the masquerade ball, the Phantom left us a new opera—Don Juan Triumphant," he began, glancing at André for confirmation.
"Yes," André chimed in, adjusting his glasses. "It's a brilliant work yet ludicrous, nevermind that.. However, it also came with a series of instructions from the Phantom himself."
Carlotta's voice rose in distress, "And the instructions state that I'm given the smallest part, and Christine is to be the lead?"
Firmin nodded gravely. "Yes, that's correct. But there's more. Océane, you're also a part of this opera."
Océane's heart skipped a beat. "Me? On stage?"
Piangi, who had remained silent until now, spoke up with an air of jealousy, "It seems the Phantom has a fascination with all things new and talented."
Océane swallowed hard, trying to absorb the shocking revelation. To be included in the performance was both an honor and a burden she didn't expect. Her violin playing had garnered recognition, but the thought of standing on that grand stage, exposed to the audience's scrutiny, made her feel vulnerable.
Amidst the tension in the room, Meg stepped forward, her eyes filled with determination. "Océane is an incredibly gifted musician. If the Phantom has recognized her talent, then it's a testament to her skill and artistry. She deserves this opportunity."
The managers exchanged glances, realizing the truth in Meg's words. Despite their initial reservations, they recognized the chance to showcase a new talent in the opera house.
Firmin spoke thoughtfully, "Indeed, Meg is right. This could be a momentous occasion for the Paris Opera House."
André added, "Yes, a unique opportunity for the both of you to shine on the stage."
Carlotta scoffed, not pleased with the turn of events. "And what about my role? I won't be overshadowed by that Christine and this newcomer!"
Océane couldn't help but bristle at Carlotta's remark about her being a newcomer. She had been at the Paris Opera House for several months now, working diligently and honing her craft. To be dismissed so easily was hurtful.
