"So, how's married life treating you?" Dad
holds the champange in his hand while looking at me and Caden lovingly. It has been about three weeks since me and Caden got married and father has been acting like nothing had happened between the two of us.
It's how he always acts. He never forgives, yet he expects others immediately dismiss his actions.
Whether he cheated on my mom, or beat his children.
Or how he liked to call it, 'Disciplining'
He always acts way nicer to me when Caden is around, but when we're alone he interrogates me about how I'm acting as a wife.
'Are you good to him? Do you cook?'
I ignore him and Caden looks at him with a bored expression before he clears his throat.
We're at some charity gala our families organized and since the wedding was one of our families finest moments, they won't shut the hell up about it.
I notice my mom smiling while talking to Caden's mother, it seems like they have a lot in common.
I've had a couple of conversations with his mother and it just felt natural to talk to her. Easy. Which isn't a usual thing around here.
She may have been in favor of our marriage, but she's not consumed by money. Unlike some people.
Caden excuses himself leaving me and my father alone, and I wanna shoot him for leaving me alone before an uneasy feeling creeps up in my chest.
"So how are you doing?" He tries, diverting his gaze to me. "Is Caden happy with you?"
There are countless things I hate about my father, but the the very top of that list would be acting as if he cares. Really cares. Just to take it away from me when he's in the mood for it.
I hate it. I hate myself for letting him do it.
"We're fine." I manage, trying my very best to keep my voice at an even level.
"Are you a good wife to him? Do you do house chores? Do you have a job?" The questions start shooting at me again and something inside of me snaps.
"No I'm not, I never do chores, and obviously I don't have a fucking job. You ruined my career." It's unreal how much stupidity he manages to hold in his small brain.
