Patience is not my specialty, which is why I'm so fucking close to ripping this blonde's head off.
"I told you, I have no idea where she is," Emory says, crossing her arms and shooting me a defiant look with her piercing blue eyes.
"Did she take the car?" I press, my tone tight as I adjust my position in the chair, the leather creaking under the strain.
"No," she replies, exasperation coloring her voice. "And as I said, I haven't been able to reach her since she went out."
"And I'm late for a meeting, so I'm going."
"You're not going anywhere until I know where the fuck my wife is."
She groans, muttering something under her breath that I don't catch. "Look, maybe she just needed some time from all this. Don't assume the worst."
Until I have confirmation that she's safe and sound, I'm going to assume the very worst.
"She said the test went well. She'll be getting the results in a few weeks," Emory continues, her voice softening as she speaks.
I grit my teeth. I am supposed to hear that from Celestine, not Emory. I need her here, with me.
I have the whole fucking city looking for her, I don't care if she never wants to see me again, I just need to know she's safe.
'You're not even worth it.'
If I could take those words back, I would do it a hundred times, because it simply wasn't true. She's worth more than I'll ever deserve, I need her to know that.
"Boss, boss!" A man bursts through the door, leaning against the frame as he tries to catch his breath.
Emory steps aside, her eyes narrowing as she assesses the newcomer.
"We—" he wheezes, and I feel my patience start to fray.
"We checked her last known location," he says, pulling a phone from his pocket and scrolling furiously. "It was West 24th Street, so we reviewed the footage from a shop in the area—"
My heart drops as he continues, "—and we saw her getting kidnapped."
"-Oslov's men took her."
Blood roars in my ears, and a white-hot rage fills my body, the kind that makes every muscle tense and every nerve scream.
My fingernails dig into my palms, I don't stop, even when I feel the skin break.
"That's not all, he sent us a message."
