Chapter 4: Investigation

October, 2017

Unnamed Pacific Island

Top Secret, United States Navy Project Log 839: Two months ago, the arrival of two new MUTOs at the Atucha Nuclear Power Plant in Argentina proved to Monarch, and the world as a whole, that the planet they live on is much smaller, but also much more mysterious, than anyone had ever guessed. Some of the creatures encountered proved to be great allies of man, they were no mere animals, they were intelligent and they communicated to humankind that they fight to keep the natural balance of the world in order. These ally MUTOs like Godzilla and Mothra were not the only giant creatures to make themselves known to us however. Others appeared as well, creatures like Clover and the FeMUTO, these monsters were the primary foe of our allies, threatening to throw nature out of balance, and thus they fought, and each time thus far the Allies of Monarch defeated their enemies and protected the Earth and civilization from being annihilated. How many more MUTOs and Kaiju could this planet hide is unknown, but what is known, is that our greatest protectors are not invincible. When the MUTO Megalon appeared in August, two of the four known friendly monsters were defeated. And if a single creature could do that, then are we truly safe? If humanity needs to defend itself in the future, without relying on another species to lend us aid, could we win? We must, and so we need to be ready. Project CZ1, beginning development.

"How do you feel?" The deep, rumbling voice of Gojira asks.

"Better," Mothra replies, "Everyday I feel stronger but the cracks in my carapace still need time to repair. If I only we had your level of regenerative ability." She says with a smile.

"I fully wish I could give to you." The King of the Monsters replies, "Nothing depresses me more than seeing you in pain..."

"Ehem," A scratchy voice says, "I'm fine here thanks for asking."

Mothra lies next to her brother Battra on Godzilla's Pacific island, and his burn wounds still appear much worse than Mothra's injuries.

"We haven't forgotten about you brother," Mothra replies, "but don't exaggerate, you'll be able to molt that burnt husk any day now and you'll be as good as new, you know I don't have that luxury."

"Luxury?" Battra refutes, "I beg to differ, this is hell on earth, it's so damn itchy!"

"You're such a child." Mothra rolls her eyes.

"I'm perfectly mature!" Battra begins to argue.

Gojira interrupts, "If you want to argue do it on someone else's island, this is the place I come to for peace and quiet and I'd like it to remain that way."

"Sorry Goji." Mothra says. Then she looks at Battra with a stern face.

"Sorry..." Battra says sarcastically.

Godzilla shoots a cross look at Battra and puffs smoke from his nostrils but then turns and walks off to another portion of the island.

After he has left, Mothra sighs, "Can't you two ever get along?"

"He's not the friendliest guy you know?" Battra replies, "It'd be easier if he wasn't so cocky and hostile. I'm not even sure I would trust the guy if you weren't so obsessed with him."

"I am not obsessed." Mothra replies, a slight look of shock on her face, "I have bigger things to worry about!"

Battra laughs, "You just keep telling yourself that..."

Mothra inhales sharply and pushes Battra's face away, "Get some rest. You need to heal." She says as she closes her eyes.

Battra giggles but soon he is in a deep, regenerative sleep.
