January, 2018

Janjira, Japan

"Three weeks Doctor. It's been three weeks and we've seen no sign of any so called 'dangerous' monster. I'm not doubting it's existence, but we simply cannot afford to remain on such a high alert level for so long. Even with the American military budget behind us, the mental, physical and economic strain on the United States Navy is unsustainable at this level of security. We're lowering our alert at this time, besides, CZ1 is almost finished isn't it? Once it's ready, security won't be much of an issue anymore now will it? We'll speak again soon, goodbye."

Ishiro Serizawa hangs up the phone and looks at Vivienne Graham who stands with him at his office in Janjira, he shakes his head. "That's it, the American Navy was the last group still searching for the Ghidrah and now even they have dropped their alert level and discontinued the hunt."

"Can't Monarch itself continue the search?" Graham asks.

"Unfortunately not, we don't have the funds for it." He says, then in a disgruntled tone, "As much as I hate the project, we'll have to speed up production on CZ1."

"CZ1?" Vivienne asks.

Serizawa sighs, "It's a joint operation between Monarch and the U.S. Navy, designed to help us fight hostile MUTOs and Kaiju. I don't approve of it, but we're under orders from the U.N. However, it may be the only defense we have against King Ghidorah right now." He picks up the phone again and dials an unusually long number.

The phone rings three times before the voice of Navy Admiral William Stenz picks up, "Doctor, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"It's CZ1 Admiral."

Stenz releases an audible sigh through the receiver, "This again? We understand your concerns Doctor, but trust me, we need this project to..."

"I'm not calling to complain." Serizawa interrupts. "...I want to push an order through to hasten production, so I called to get your okay."

Stenz is silent for a moment, stunned, then he speaks up. "Well, glad you're seeing our side of things Doc, of course that idea sounds good to me but I gotta ask; why the sudden change of heart?"

"Ghidorah is a threat, and I have a feeling CZ1 might be the only thing ready to protect us from him without hesitation."

"I completely agree." the Admiral replies, "I'll redirect you to the Monarch Atlantic Facility and you can give the order yourself."

The phone clicks and then begins ringing again, an automated voice picks up, "Hello, you have reached the M.A.F. please enter verification code to continue."

Ishiro pushes a seven digit code into the phone.

"Verification code confirmed, please state your name."

"Serizawa."

"Voice print confirmed, transferring..."

For a minute a quiet jingle plays through the telephone's speaker, then it clicks and a new voice comes over the receiver. "Ishiro, hey! What's up?"

"I'm calling about CZ1's production."

"Yep. I assumed so, never calling just to say hi are ya?" The man on the other end laughs, "Anyway, yeah, CZ1 is doing good, we're on schedule to have it ready for preliminary testing in eleven days."

"We're gonna need it sooner, make it a week." Serizawa says.

"That new monster worrying you? I'll see what I can do to rush production. No promises though."
