Godzilla Against All: Part 1

Chapter 9: Hyperborea

February, 2018

Unnamed Pacific Island

Four days after Cyber-Zilla was killed, Doctor Ishiro Serizawa, Admiral William Stenz, and Doctor James Alta step down from a helicopter onto the sandy beach of a small Pacific island where Mothra and Godzilla have made their home. The King of the Monsters himself rests nearby however the egg containing Mothra is hidden from their view.

The three men all take a few cautious steps toward the MUTO. Godzilla takes a sniff of the air and opens an eye, upon seeing the humans he grumbles angrily.

"You." The beast says in what the Doctors and Admiral hear in a deep and very scratchy, yet clearly English voice.

His brow furrowed, Gojira stands, towering over the humans. He crouches slightly and peers down at them.

"You arrogant, foolish, disrespectful, puny mammals!" He bellows ferociously.

Stenz and Alta take a few nervous steps back, their faces plastered with fear, Serizawa however stays planted where he is, though his face betrays equal amounts of fear at the raging beast.

The lizard king takes note of the Doctor's refusal to move, he crouches down further, now resting his weight on all four of his limbs, and peers directly into Ishiro's eyes. "I trusted you." He says, quietly but with much more venom.

"Goji!" A voice calls from behind. "Are you harassing them? I told you I would handle this."

Godzilla stands up again and turns his head, behind him a brown worm, about the size of a bus, slowly crawls forward.

"Mothra?" Serizawa asks, "You've hatched."

"Indeed I have Doctor," she says as she crawls up to him.

"I was wondering why I could understand Gojira." Ishiro replies, "Does that mean you've regained your psychic abilities?"

"The passive ones." Mothra says, "I can translate, read minds, pinpoint locations of living things, et cetera. My psychic attacks, however, will not return until I metamorphosize."

"Excellent news." the Admiral says from behind Serizawa. "You can track Ghidorah now? That means we can find and eliminate him."

"You are correct." Mothra replies, "But, we all know that is not why you're here. Gojira, however brash, is correct. You betrayed our trust, why?"

"Now listen." Stenz says, "We recognized that King Ghidorah was a major threat. With you incapacitated, and Godzilla standing watch over your egg, we needed to make sure we could defend ourselves."

Mothra moves past Serizawa and crawls up to the Admiral, moving only a couple of feet from his face, in a hushed and calm tone she says, "You and I both know that isn't true Admiral. You were working on Zilla far before the Ghidrah appeared...why don't you try again?"

"I see nothing gets past you eh?" Stenz says, maintaining his composure.

Behind Mothra, Gojira smirks at the Admiral's comment.

"Quite so." Mothra replies, "Despite your best attempts, you would find it quite difficult to hide things from someone who practically raised you as a species." She pauses. "Listen, the three of you. I'm not angry, humanity has done...and is currently doing, much worse things. However, your actions were, as Goji said, foolish. You saw Battra and I injured in our fight against Megalon. That's when you started building CZ1, as you call it. You are afraid that we cannot defend you, and you are also afraid to put all your trust in a foreign defender. I can see, how humans, with your own military forces that are completely under your control, would be too proud and afraid to trust others to fight for you. Your pride clouds your judgement, I have no qualms with you attempting to fend for yourselves, but Cyber-Zilla was a mistake. It was disrespectful to the dead. It was dangerous to assume you could control a wild animal. It was foolish to use untested technology on such an enormous scale project." She sighs, "You are lucky Zilla Junior holds no grievances against you, and even more lucky that he survived. If Junior had perished, Gojira may have given you more than just a scolding. Despite his outward roughness, Goji cares greatly for his friends, and seeing how Junior is young and inexperienced only increases how much he worries about his safety."
