Scene 9
(Back with Nemo and the other fish)
Dory: go easy Gil, he only found out about his mom
Gil: what?
Gil looked at Nemo. There was hurt in his eyes, a longing for something.
Gil: I...I'm so sorry kid. What made your dad bring this up finally?
Nemo: because of a mom's event at school, and...I don't have a mom. She died.
Gil: I'm sorry. That would explain why your dad fought the entire ocean to find you, just like you are fighting for him. I guess we didn't really get to know the full you during our short time together. We were all focused on you getting home and escaping ourselves, we didn't see the big picture.
Bloat: don't beat yourself up too bad Gil
Deb: yeah, I mean when trying to save someone from being shaken in a bag, your first thought isn't "so tell me about your life?"
Gil: Well on this journey, I want to also focus on the big picture, we have 3 days after all. The ocean isn't going anywhere. Nemo, what did you learn about your mom?
Nemo: well...I learned that her and my dad met in Hawaii and how she died-
Gil: You don't have to tell us that part kid. It's hard to lose someone you love. I'm sure you and your dad learned so much on your adventure, like what's important in life
Nemo: yeah! He's not as overprotective as he was and is learning how to have fun sometimes! But...he can still be annoying
(Everyone laughs)
Gil: wait a minute...did you say he was from Hawaii?
Nemo: yeah, apparently it was beautiful down there. I wonder why he moved
Gil: wait a minute...west...west coast traveling through a rip tide through here...
Flo: where are you going with this Gil?
Nemo: are you saying my dad might be in Hawaii?!
Gil: it's possible, if not there then further along the coast. It's hard to know for sure though. There's many hurricanes and earthquakes that pass through, that's probably what created the rip tide
Hank: there was a hurricane a few days ago
Gil: How do you know?
Hank: (lifts up his tentacle) this one I lost, it aches whenever there is a storm, it was a big one. At least a Category 4
Gil: Category 4...without knowing where it came from will be tough to determine where it moved through. Bailey is that something you're able to detect?
Bailey: I can detect a pressure change in the water from rip tides and hurricanes, but I don't know if I would be able to detect to where it moved to
Gil: that might be our best shot, otherwise we'll just be swimming in circles. Let's have our end goal to make it to Hawaii, but Bailey if you sense pressure in another direction, we will have to go with that. Would you be able to help me lead this one?
Bailey: I'll do anything I can to help
Gil: alright gang, let's do this. We've got no time left to waste
(Scene changes back to Marlin and Coral)
Coral: I'll help you find him. I want to help my child find his dad, but...after I help, I'll have to leave.
Marlin: (pauses) I understand
Coral: You don't have to tell nemo I helped you, it's probably best if I don't meet him. I don't think he'd understand
Marlin: If you feel like that is best, then...I won't disagree with you. Thank you for helping me
Coral: We'll leave tomorrow, it'll be dark soon. You can stay with me if you want
Marlin: you don't have to-
Coral: well, if you want to stay out here with these crazy tourists then by all means (swims into her anemone)
(It felt like de ja vu all over again, Marlin peeked his head into the anemone, and it felt like that exact moment 6 years ago. Coral felt Marlin staring and turned her head)
Coral: what?
Marlin: Coral, do you remember when we met?
(Coral's eyes widened. She felt the de ja vu feeling herself. The flashback of the barracuda came flooding back. What was he doing??)
Coral: get out!
Marlin: what?
Coral: I said get out! Are you trying to make me revisit a traumatic memory?!
Marlin: no! I just- it slipped out!
Coral: I'm sorry. You're going to have to find your own way back. I can't do this.
Marlin: wait- no I'm-
(Without allowing Marlin to finish his thought, Coral swam out of the anemone so fast that by the time Marlin poked out, she was already gone.
Marlin: (sighs) Nemo...what am I going to do now?
(Feeling like he had no choice, Marlin decided to stay in the anemone to stay safe from being out in the open. He hoped Coral would come back, he wasn't sure what he would do if she didn't.)
Bailey: oooo...this way...
Hank: should we consider stopping for the night?
Dory: yeah, Nemo looks a little tired
Gil: are you tired shark bait?
Nemo: (very tired indeed but doesn't want to show) no not at all
Gil: alright guys let's find a place to rest for tonight
Nemo: wait but-
Hank: it's getting dark kid
Bloat: (yawns) if we don't sleep soon...
Deb: it doesn't seem like we have many comfy options
Bailey: there's a small cave I detect, it's got space for all of us and no detection of predators
Gil: perfect, how long of a swim?
Bailey: not too much longer
(They all settled in the cave. Nemo was looking out into the ocean from the entrance of the cave. It didn't go unnoticed.)
Gil: what's wrong nemo?
Nemo: it's the end of day 1
Gil: I'd say we got far today. We should get there by the end of the 3rd day
Nemo: I'm just worried, what if we get to Hawaii and he's not there? I don't want to not have a dad too
Gil: that would never happen
Nemo: how do you know?
Dory: don't worry so much about the time limit for 3 days, I would help find him until the end of time
Bailey: me too
Hank: well maybe. Ow-I mean me too
Gil: I promise we won't fail you. Not now. If we don't find him at the 3rd day, then we will head back and regroup from there
Nemo: thank you Gil, thank you all
Gil: So, we haven't gotten to hear much about where you live. We haven't seen it so why don't you tell us about it?
Nemo: it's a wonderful, big wide ocean view. Our anemone is surrounded by every plant you can think of. I have so many friends, I have the best teacher(starts to drift off to sleep) and I have the best dad
(When Marlin awoke, the anemone was empty. Coral had not returned. Where could she have gone? He decided he was on his own to get back home. He felt very heartbroken about the decision, he wouldn't be able to see his love one more time and say goodbye and Nemo would never get to meet his mom. Marlin swam around for a while. He wasn't sure where he was going but he needed to find someone. While he looked around, he noticed Hawaii had changed a lot since he left. Nothing looked familiar, all the places where he used to hang out were gone. He never noticed the number of visitors before until now. He swam for what seemed like forever before he heard a commotion. He paused. Then he heard laughter and decided it was safe to proceed. What he saw shocked him. Humans snorkeling and the fish were swimming right up to them and alongside them!
Marlin: watch out! What'd you doing? Swim away!
(Some of the fish became frightened and swam away, but some of them started laughing. An Achilles tang approaches him)
Joel: hey buddy! I'll thank you not to scare off my tourists, what's the problem?
Marlin: how can you let these fish swim with Humans!
(Joel and the other fish look at each other and start laughing. Marlin looked at them confused)
Joel: Have you ever thought maybe it's the humans that want to swim with us? I don't know where you live, but the humans have always swum with the fish and there hasn't been any danger
Marlin: Haven't they ever tried to snatch the fish up? To make them pets or anything?
Joel: snatch up?
Marlin: yeah like...kidnap them?
Joel: no, nothing like that! Humans are more afraid of us than we are of them, they're just curious. How could they not? This place is beautiful. If it became a problem, we would just send one of our scary fish friends over and problem solved. Like this, oh Makoa!
(A shadow lurched over them. A Lionfish appears which makes Marlin gasp.)
Makoa: they see me, they swim away quick
Marlin: so these fish just...swim with them...for fun?
Joel: it's an experience for both species. I know there aren't very good humans out there, but a lot of them aren't scary. Some of them even swim with sharks!
(Marlin's eyes widen)
Marlin: How come I never knew of this before?
Makoa: well...don't clownfish usually stay in their anemone?
Marlin: well yeah but I thought I had explored the whole oceans of Hawaii, apparently not.
Joel: besides scaring away these newcomer fish, can we help you with something?
Marlin: well actually yes, I live on a reef a long way from here. By the drop off. A rip tide carried me through, and I don't know how to get back
Makoa: that must've been one hell of a rip tide
Marlin: so, you know how to get back?
Makoa: no... sorry
Marlin: have you seen another clownfish pass this way? She was supposed to help me get back
Joel: no, sorry man. Maybe you could ride along with the humans, I don't think they're going where you are, but it could help with distance
Marlin: uh no thanks, I battled sharks, jellyfish, an angler fish, and seagulls. The LAST thing I want to do is swim with them
Makoa: you know what your problem is, is that you're a bit...what's the word there Joel?
Joel: gutless?
Marlin: gutless? I'm sorry, didn't you just hear me? I battled SHARKS
Joel: so why are you afraid of humans?
Marlin: it's not that I'm afraid, I just...haven't had a positive experience with them. A diver took my son, hence why I battled the whole ocean. To rescue him. Then humans took my friend...a whole other adventure. They're both ok now, thank goodness. But now I'm lost and just want to go home
(Joel and Makoa stare each other)
Makoa: you're very brave
Marlin: oh, I'm brave now?
Joel: I do hate for you to have the wrong perception of humans. (Thinks for a moment) Come on!
Marlin: huh, what?
Joel: come on I said!
(Makoa and Joel swim towards a group of advanced fish who swim with the snorkelers regularly)
Joel: Aloha, everyone!
All: Aloha!
Joel: I hope you are ready for an adventure! We have a first timer with us, uh...I'm sorry I didn't catch your name before
Marlin: it's Marlin
Makoa: Marlin here has never swum with humans before. I think he needs a little adventure, don't you think?
All: yeah!
Marlin: no no... I told you I'm-
Kai (A Raccoon butterfly fish): you have nothing to worry about hoaloha
(Marlin eased up a little when he heard the word hoaloha. He felt like he was young again, that's what all his friends used to call him.)
Kai: the best way to overcome your fear is by doing what you fear
Marlin: so...what do we do?
Kai: just swim...be cautious of course, but swim. Enjoy yourself.
Marlin: you say it like its-
(Kai grabs him before he can say anything else. Marlin shouts in disapproval. As they start getting closer to the snorkelers, Marlin tries to break free.)
Kai: don't fight it Hoaloha! Just swim!
(Kai lets Marlin go and starts to swim along. Marlin froze for a second trying to take this in. He felt a little panic when he saw the masks and flippers again. It reminded him of the diver that took nemo. He saw that some of the divers looked at him, but not with demise, instead fascination. As some swam by, he started to feel more at ease that they did not mean harm. He started to swim beside them and doing that, he took in the view in front of him. He started to laugh a little.)
Kai: yeahh! There you go hoaloha! You're doing it!
(He swam up to a few more humans, some placed their hands out to touch him, this time he wasn't frightened, Marlin knew to move. This was fun, he hadn't felt this type of rush in a long time since he lived down here. He forgot about everything for a spilt second. All the advanced fish cheered for him and the fish who were frightened earlier joined back in seeing the fun the clownfish was having. Unfortunately, he was having a lot of fun to the point where he wasn't focused. One minute he was laughing the next he was met with darkness when a human child accidently kicked him with their flipper.
