(Off near the drop off Mr ray takes the kids to see some eggs being hatched)
Mr ray: as you can see kids...the mother will return to see her children hatched and a bond between will form
Nemo: mr ray? How many eggs can a fish lay?
Mr ray: that's a very good question Nemo..it usually depends on the species but a fish could lay hundreds of eggs
Nerd fish: that means lots of brothers and sisters!
Mr ray: exactly
(The class watches in amazement as the eggs hatch and the mother is there to see it)
Mr ray: it's very great experience to see, it's always important that we appreciate our moms
Polka dot fish: Mr ray? Is there a day that celebrates moms?
Mr ray: hmm..that's a great question..I think that would be a great idea to have something like that!
Striped fish: yeah! We could have a day where our moms come to school and tell us what it's like!
Green fish: it doesn't even have to be that! We could just have a day where we show our moms how much we love them
Mr ray: all great ideas...really great ideas! As a matter of fact...our next assignment I want all your moms to come..and they can tell us something about themselves
(All the kids cheer except for Nemo)
Sheldon: what's wrong Nemo? Aren't you excited?
(Before Nemo can answer the nerd fish interrupts)
Nerd fish: oh Nemo doesn't have a mom!
Pearl: you don't have a mom? I'm so sorry
Green fish: dang that's really sad
Tad: I never knew that about you
Polka dot fish: did she die?
Nemo: um..I don't know
Mr ray: class class! That's nothing to get all crazy about, lots of fish don't have moms
Nerd fish: really? Name another one?
Mr ray: well I can't really..
Nerd fish: then nemos the only one without a mom
Mr ray: Nemo...the assignment..you could bring your dad
Striped fish: what? Then that defeats the whole purpose!
Mr ray: I think we should cancel the assignment then
(Everyone exclaims in disappointment and Nemo feels guilty)
Nemo: no...that's ok mr ray...I don't have to do it
Mr ray: no problem Nemo...(takes him aside) and listen..it's ok not to have a mom..your dad does a pretty good job and that dory..
Nemo: thanks Mr ray
Mr ray: alright class the assignment will take place next week so make sure you tell your moms! Now let's head back, your parents are waiting
(On the way back, Nemo feels sad..he watched as everyone was expressing excitement over the project)
Tad: my moms pretty cool! She teaches me lots of things!
Pearl: no mine is! She can twirl really fast!
Sheldon: (notices Nemo) guys..maybe we shouldn't talk about...
Tad: huh? (Looks over at Nemo) oh...
Nemo: if you're talking about your moms go ahead
Nerd fish: good! My mom can do lots of things!
(Nemo then looks around and sees lots of young fish with their moms and he envisions that it's him and his mom...he didn't know what his mom looked like but he imagined she looked like him and his dad)
Pearl: Nemo?
Nemo: huh?
Pearl: when did your mom die?
Nemo: I don't know...probably when I was young..I don't remember her and my dad doesn't talk about her
Tad: you should ask him
Nemo: oh um..I don't know..
Sheldon: that's too bad you can't be in the assignment
Nemo: (rolls his eyes) yeah...
(Mr ray brings them all back and all the fish rush to tell their parents about the assignment and Nemo swims around looking for his dad and doesn't see him at first but then sees him swimming fast)
Marlin: sorry I'm late, I lost track of time! How was school today?
Nemo: it was..fine
Marlin: just fine?
Nemo: yeah..
Marlin: you're usually excited after school..is anything wrong?
Nemo: no..(starts to swim)
Marlin: hey what's wrong?
Nemo: nothings wrong..
Marlin: ok...you would tell me if anything was right?
Nemo: yes dad..can we just go home?
(Marlin starts to swim and notices Nemo is acting strange and he knows it. Nemo usually took his time going home, stopping to look everything but today kept swimming by)
Marlin: not stopping today?
(Nemo doesn't answer)
Marlin: catfish got your tongue (no answer) I'll take that as a yes
(Dory, her parents, and friends come out to greet Nemo and Marlin)
Dory: hey Nemo!
Marlin: hey you actually got it right!
Dory: I did? well that's a special occasion
Nemo: hey dory..
Dory: you want to come play captains chest? We were about to start
Nemo: no thanks, I don't feel like it today
Bailey: are you sure? It'll be fun!
Nemo: no thanks...(swims off)
Destiny: what's wrong with Nemo?
Marlin: I don't know..he's acting strange..
Charlie: well I can tell being a father..something might be bothering him
Marlin: he was fine before he went to school...oh no something must've happened!
Hank: i don't care but I would probably check on him..
Marlin: I should, I'll see you guys later! Nemo wait up!
Destiny: so are we playing or what?
Bailey: of course! And we'll win!
Hank: nope! Me and dory got this!
Dory: yes! We got this! But..what is it we got?
(Everyone laughs)
(Nemo swims home and hears his dad call him but he keeps swimming and doesn't stop till he gets to anemone)
Marlin: Nemo didn't you hear me calling you?
Nemo: (shrugs)
Marlin: did something happen at school?
Nemo: why do you say that?
Marlin: well...you were happy this morning and today you didn't want to hang with dory and everyone else like you usually do...
Nemo: it's not that I didn't want to, I didn't feel like it
Marlin: if something's wrong you can tell me, it's what I'm here for
Nemo: well..we have this assignment at school and I can't be part of it
Marlin: what? What'd you mean you can't be part of it?
Nemo: because..(hesitates) because I don't have a mom
Marlin: (goes silent for a long time with his mouth hung open a little) oh...well..what does not having a mom have to do with this assignment
Nemo: well we were watching some eggs hatch today and some kids at school thought we should have a day where we appreciate our moms and Mr ray decided to make an assignment where our moms come to school next week..
Marlin: well...I'll talk to Mr ray about it
Nemo: no! Don't say anything..it's ok...really
Marlin: well you shouldn't be left out because you don't have a mom! That's not right!
Nemo: I told Mr ray I'm not going to...I don't have a mom so I can't do the assignment
Marlin: but Nemo...I want you to be included
Nemo: dad...you can always be part of everything...I guess this is one of those things (looks down) dad..?
Marlin: yes?
Nemo: I did have a mom didn't I?
Marlin: (sighs) of course you did Nemo...
Nemo: what was she like?
Marlin: she..(doesn't want to think of the memories) she looked like me and you..she was very..sweet..very simple
Nemo: did she die?
Marlin: yes..she did...too soon
Nemo: was it something bad?
Marlin: I'm afraid yes...I was very protective of you because of it
Nemo: I don't remember her...when did she die?
Marlin: you never got to meet her..she died before you hatched
Nemo: oh...how come you never told me?
Marlin: because I didn't want you to feel sad..
Nemo: do you miss her? Do you feel sad when you think of her?
Marlin: yes I do miss her and I try not to feel sad...because I have you
Nemo: but dad..what was the bad thing that happened?
Marlin: I think it's best not to tell you...but it has to do something with your lucky fin..
Nemo: why can't you tell me?
Marlin: I already told you why
Nemo: but now I want to know
Marlin: nemo...
Nemo: please...
Marlin: (sighs)
