The screeching sound of shoes kissing the floor echoed in the empty hall. There she was, training with no rest at all since the morning greeted her, up until night claimed its time. Sometimes, she wondered why she herself could never get tired of playing this sport. Even though some people including the coach had told her to go home, she just did not budge. Instead of going home, she stayed there to practice even more, for God knows' how long.
After she wiped her sweats away, Sam bowed down to take the last ball that laid on the floor near her feet, let it fall, and dribbled it. While her hands did the job, her eyes were searching for the blinking red numbers on the wall, located just above the backboard.
"Shit, 9 pm already" Sam let out her displeased sigh after seeing the clock. She knew she had to go home anytime soon before her parents scolded her again for over training. She just could not help but to feel more and more excited for the upcoming The Philippine's Basketball Team selection.
Putting her hands above her head, Sam jumped and threw the ball to the ring. The ball flew high for a moment before it came inside nothing but the net. Once she saw it coming, her lips rose up. She was confident enough that if she could maintain this consistency, she would get selected by the National Team easily.
As the ball hit the floor, Sam brought her feet lazily, picking up dozens of balls that scattered around the basketball court and put all of them inside the box near the storage room. Lastly, she took her bags and got out of the building.
"Again?" The school security said while walking closer to Sam who was closing the door hall.
"Yup," Sam said nonchalantly, leaving the security dumbfounded by her attitude.
The security shook his head, "Go straight to your home, Sam. Your parents might be worried."
Sam nodded, waved her hands, left it hanging above her head without turning her body to see the security. "I will, don't worry. Good night."

Sam chose to go home by foot, considering the distance between her school and her home was just two kilometers away. Despite being born in a wealthy family, Sam was not really into showing off with cars or bikes like her friends. Though she got some in her garage, she preferred to move her own feet if the distance was still understandable.
Though Sam was really a down to earth person, her siblings were different. Ken-Chan, her oldest brother, was a businessman in the Philippines. He sometimes went home to Thailand just to celebrate Christmas and such. The age gap between them might be one of the reasons why both of them were not really close in the first place.
The glorious life Ken-Chan lived was something that probably most of the people in the world were asking. He partied everywhere and everytime he liked. He threw out money for anyone just to get laid with. His love for money and women were insane. He lived the life that Sam would not like to have nor experience, not even once.
Her older sister, Charlie, was a famous actress based in the Philippines, like Ken-Chan. She spent most of the time traveling and working. She was always craving for anyone's attention and she made the most of it. She was that kind of person who was okay with doing anything she could, as long as her utmost needs were fulfilled.
Yes, both of Sam's parents were mixed. Sam's father was a Thai businessman and her mother was Filipino. That was the reason why her brother and sister were not living together with her. They chose to become citizens of the Philippines and only came to visit their family once in a while.
Sam, being the youngest of the three, also planned to move to the Philippines to pursue her dream: becoming the best woman basketball player of the National team. Her parents already approved that, since they knew Ken and Charlie were there already. She just had to wait for weeks until she would go there.
