                     Grace

I lay awake in bed waiting for midnight. I looked at my watch 11:50, so close. Ten minutes passed and I silently crept out of bed. I pulled on my socks and grabbed my bag of supplies I had packed earlier, then I grabbed my boots and carried them deciding they were probably too loud to walk in. I walked to the big mahogany doors and slipped through to the other side and walked down the hallway past the dining room and into the room where most of the kids hangout. As I entered the room I stopped in my tracks. Someone was sitting in one of the sofas crying softly.
'what should I do?' I thought to myself. But the moment I did I knew it was never a question. I quietly walked over and knelt next to the person. The person turned to me startled. He was a little boy who had just arrived three days ago, he had lost his parents in a fire. "Who are you?" He asked.
"My name is Grace, what's wrong?" I ask.
"I miss my parents."
"I'm sorry. I don't really remember when my parents died but I do remember how I felt."
"I just can't believe they're gone," he said his voice cracking. Then he started crying and I asked him if he wanted me to sit with him. I knew I needed to leave soon before I got cought but it didn't matter this was more important.
I sat down and the boy crawled into my lap. I held him till he fell asleep, then I got up and carried him to his bed. After laying him down in his bed I left the dorm room and went back to the hangout room and picked up my bag. I crept over to the window and silently opened it but it made a really loud creek sound. I hurriedly climbed out onto the wet grass and slid into the shadows of the orphanage. I stopped when I reached the shadows knowing they would conceal me. It was a good thing I did because a moment later someone came over to the window and looked out of the window. They looked directly at me and my heart froze, then they closed the window and locked it. I let my breath out with a sigh. I continued on in the shadows until I reached the gate. When I got to the gate I looked around at the cameras and found the best place to climb over. On the other side I ran down the street into the center of town and called a taxi. I hopped into the taxi and gave the driver the location for Rose's new family.
