"What test do they need to run?" I ask concern filling my voice.

"I do not know. The Paramedic's said they would tell us when we got there." Laura replies her brow furrowing.

A feeling of unease churns in my stomach. 'There is something wrong with this situation. Why did the paramedic's not tell her what the test was?'

"What are you not telling me? Where are we going?"

"Rose, I told you everything I know."

The way the tone of Laura's voice told me she was lying, "You are lying."

"I am not lying Rose."

"Are you even really foster parents?"

"Yes. Do you think I would lie to you?"

"Yes, I do think you would lie to me."

"That hurts Rose. Why would I lie to you?"

"You are lying to me right now."

"NO I AM NOT!" Laura huffs voice rising, then she takes a deep breath and says, "Rose I am not lying to you."

"Why would I trust that you are not lying to me. I barely know you."

"Rose you are right, we have only known each other for a week. So you do not know that you can trust me. But I need you to," Laura says eyes softening.

"Ok," I sigh, but something does not sit right with me still.

We drive though the city in silence the tall buildings all around us reaching towards the sun like flowers.

We reach a building that looks like a castle with tall towers and long misshapen shadows. An ominous feeling fills my whole body as a shiver runs down my spine. "Where are we?" I ask trying to keep the fear out of my voice.

"The specialist doctors office. Come they are waiting for us inside." I slide myself out of the car as slow as if I am moving through mud. 'This place gives me a bad feeling. Some how I know something is wrong here.'

I follow Laura through the ginormous red wood doors and into the entrance hall. Looking around I see red and black oriental designed carpet. The walls and celling are so tall I cannot see the top as they fade into black shadows. There are tall pillars along the walkways throughout the hall. Large comfortable looking sofas are scattered throughout the entrance. Still the feeling sticks with me and I know something is wrong and not how it should be.

"Where is Grace?"

"Further in you can see her after they run the tests."

"I want to see her now!" I shout.

"No, Rose. The doctors are trying to help Grace and you would just get in the way."

"I don't trust them."

"But you have to or else Grace will never get better," Laura says urging me on down the large entrance hall and into a much smaller one off to the side.

We are nearing the end of the hall when Laura stops me at a door. Laura turns a golden inlaid handle on the ornate red wood door. It opens up into a large room with a huge bed in the middle. The room is made of the same red wood as the door was and there are pictures on them. The room is child sized but its decor is fancy enough to be for grownups. Looking around the room I take it all in and still come back to the fact that it is so grown up.

I turn to Laura and ask, "When do I get to see Grace?"

"In a couple hours, they are going to run some tests and try to get her feeling better. You wait here and I will come and get you when you can see her," Laura reply's motioning for me to sit down.

I take a seat on the small bed and Laura closes the door behind her.
